in my opinion melee as it is right now is not well balanced. on hit with a rifle butt should not kill anyone. that should take maybe 2 hits. 1 hit for bayonet or knife/other melee weapons. also rifle butt “rate of fire” seems a bit high.
sometimes you run into a room where a full enemy squad is, and if you are lucky shoot the player controlled guy with the bolt action rifle and club the AI to death before he can occupy another soldier.
AI is to easy to kill with melee, when a player gets to close to them they should also use melee to defend them selves. again butt strokes should take 2 hits to kill so you dont “accidentally” run into AI and they knock you out instantly.
melee should play a big part in combat, but right now it is to easy and to effective.
different melee weapons should have different attributes for example:
rifle butt stroke always available but slow rate of fire and needs 2 hits, medium range
knife only needs 1 hit faster rate of fire, short range and arc to hit needs to be selected and switched to
rifle bayonett long rage, always available, slow rate of fire, small arc
combat shovel longer range and bigger arc than the knife but slower rate of fire
etc. you can see where i am going.
