So I was thinking, a unique squad could be something like a medical regiment or specialist.
The specialist would equip rifles but would be able to ‘build’ medical posts (like ammo refill points but for medical kits, but with the same restrictions as the rally point (not inside cap points).
They could also equip more (or special) medical kits with the aim to revive downed allies (maybe nerfing the self revive time for other squads unless medic is assisting), but at a cost of a downside in which to these troops would be something like they are obviously modelled (Big Red Crosses as they tended to do early in the Russian campaign) and unable to revive themselves.
Ideas?
It would be good to see some other frontline specialist roles. But I’m not sure how to work it so that they aren’t too powerful.
Fair, but give the that it was usual that German Medic’s carried pistols, hence breaking the actual wording (and protection) of the Geneva convention, made them considered as legitimate target, but usually were treated as they would expect theirs to be treated. But I know the USSR didn’t sign the 1929 amendment and considered them legitimate military targets.
But then again it’s a game and I thought I would have added a new/ different method of play. The face we have Flamethrowers, which are a very questionable weapon as they are allowed to be used to clear out hard to reach bunkers but technically not to be used on infantry targets…
You say that but I got loads of kills with the M2 Flamethrower on Normandy and killed an entire squad with a captured ROKS-2. . I actually think they’re decent weapons, not too powerful, but not weak, can even use it as an early warning as you get a hit marker if someone runs over the flames!
Yeah the Pacific theatre was brutal in this aspect, both sides treated medics as fair game.
The Soviet Union wasn’t a signatory of the 1929 GC revision and Germany signed/ ratified it but still armed their medics, effectively nullifying the the GCs protection.
But in game wise, I thought it would be a good addition, but I think maybe I was just going on how medic roles are enjoyable in other games.
Further reading and information from a reddit post. In essence, there was a huge controversy in 2016-2017 about this, since displaying the red cross outside of its very specific context is a violation of international law, and as such technically a war crime:
