This is not okay https://i.imgur.com/YRyk2WV.png
Playing on a team where it appears that not a single person on my side even has an engineer, so one enemy in an aircraft just spends the whole game unkillable doing endless attack runs wiping out squads at a time.
There’s a similar problem where one person with a higher tier tank than anyone else can sit and soak up shots from first tier tanks, and they can push the other side back so much that there’s no chance to set up an AT gun, so it’s just hoping that maybe someone in a plane can get good rocket hits in.
Planes even though they fly like bricks are all too powerful at present, fair balance does not exist. Your squads can be repeatedly wiped out by fly arounds. For mine this just destroys the ethics of this game. As I’ve said in other posts in CBT, why would anyone want to be above the real action. Infantry squad action is what sets this game above the others. Some players argue that Engineers can build AA guns but this is ineffective due to time and you shoot one guy down! Big deal.
I don’t think it should be split on progression, asymmetric balance is also fun to play in, but the progression is inherently imbalanced right now because not all of the options are open to the players. IMHO, progression should let you upgrade troop types with only a smidge of actual new unit unlocks (flamethrowers, mortars), i.e units that counter certain conditions better than the standard roster but are not always the mainstay of your formations. Right now counters like fighters vs attackers, AT-rifles vs tanks are locked in the progression until the midpoint of the campaign which makes early battles very imbalanced and frustrating, too easy for the tankers/fighters and impossible for the infantry.
I was in a match last night on Normandy and some of the American players had Shermans, we couldn’t even slow them down, I thought this is really unfair, but then on the last objective somebody spawned in a Panzer IV. I was like why did you wait till we had lost to bring that out. Oh well.
I have extensive experience in the game. I played for about a week now, so I consider myself to be something of an expert.
I have not encountered a single problem in the game, that couldnt be solved by a well aimed bolt action shot, well timed TNT or a portable spawn. Everything else is secondary.
- Oh, they have a fancy tank and its a big-ish map? Lemme just place a couple of tank barricades, so their advancment halts.
- Oh, they have a fancy tank and its a small-ish map? Lemme just place a spawn, so we can spam it with TNT
- Oh, they have a well defended point? Lemme just bomb that with an aircraft and then place a spawner to their flank
- Oh, they have a fancy plane? Lemme just build AA emplacement (or better, build more portable spawns, so you disperese your forces and enemy planes cant spam your initial spawn)
What I’m trying to say is that people are not using the tools they are given properly and that leads to bad matches. Most of the time, I’m the only one making tank traps, portable spawns, barbed wires, etc. Not because I would enjoy doing it and for sure not because it would give me EXP, but because noone else does that and I want to win the game. And these are the things that win matches. Tank traps dont care about a tank, neither does portable spawn, yet noone uses them.
I’d say give it time. Give people time to learn how to use the tools they are given and then lets see if this is still a problem.
This being said, I can imagine matchmaker that would say “Hey, you can fight only people who are 2 levels ahead or behind you in the campaign”. This however requires large amount of players to work well and it creates a problem for new players, because at some point, there might not be enough low level players to play with them.
This is my experience most matches also, if I get in a plane to take out tanks, my team folds like a cheap suit, and we lose the current objective. Sometimes I get good teammates who see me put a rally point close to A, so they put one close to C and we dominate.
Because the person spawning that Panzer IV likely couldn’t do so earlier in the match. It’s frustrating to see noobs wasting valuable tank spawns, achieving absolutely nothing.
Possibility, for sure.
Couldn’t agree more with that.
