Got thinking about the possible improvements to the historical accuracy of the game and I conjured up the idea as presented in the title.
The perfect test-run would be the BR 3 medium tanks, as the models are incredibly close to one another. For example, instead of 4 long-barrelled panzer IVs in the TT, there’d be only one, switching models between maps. They all share pretty much the same cannon anyway, diffrences between L/43 and L/48 are minor; The armor is 80mms on the hull (albeit with minimal holes for the panzer IV G, but I don’t think that’s a deal-breaker, because everyone aims for the turret anyway)
Here are some possible benefits:
Historical accuracy for appearance, especially for german tanks (The variations for the F2 in armor can be disregarded, as it was fitted with add-on armor upon leaving the factory / could be returned it’s additional track armor)
The devs would be given a good way to implement vehicles that only saw combat in certain parts of the world (eg. chinese T26 M1933s)
Devs would then most likely remove the possibility to see incorrect camo patterns in incorrect time periods ( eg. no snow tanks in tunisia)
Here are some possible downsides:
Issue of golden-order vehicles
Reduced player choice
People would probably need to be refunded some skins (Or maybe merging the skins of all vehicles affected?)
Well this game is already ruined with 1946 prototypes because “we have to balance each faction for the 262’ and the kikka”, so well let’s just go on with it imagining that this is some hearts of iron gameplay where Berlin fell in 1948. Tho we could at least just make a setting in custom matches where only accurate second world war arsenal is allowed.
I did think that devs would do that when the merge was announced since it makes no sense to have 3 StG44 or 3 BAR1918 variants all on the same BR, but for them it does.
In fact they even added Panzer IV G to tech tree for no reason at all. Peak copy-paste mentality.
I mean yeah, insanely unpopular opinion that I don’t think anybody else would share with me, but I wouldn’t mind if we got more tech from the late 1940s like the EM-2 or AK-47. Still fits the time period, not like you’re adding laser guns
(USA faction could probably really stand to benefit from the EM-2 instead of having to use the weak ass .30 carbine cartridge for all of their intermediate guns)
