At least for vets with many squads, current weapon upgrade system is horrible.
If I want to upgrade my gun, I need to find some obscure squad number 3781 that I never intended to use, and then grind it to unlock upgrades. This is just unnecesarry and annoying to use.
It would be better if I could unlock upgrades in the tech tree.
For example add stars to the tech tree. When I unlock a gun, I can research it’s upgrades (stars) or I can skip it. (I don’t have acces to paint right now, use your imagination.)
I’ve also suggested this in the past - would make much more sense. At the moment its a real hassle even trying to find the squad I need to grind to unlock the upgrade, similar to trying to find the squad that can use a certain vehicle.
If we go that way, I feel that we should just make it so that also soldiers are out of the squad research. Instead, it would be levelled all apart as you use it. Squad upgrades would be gained by playing a particular squad, soldier upgrades by gaining points with desired soldier class and weapon upgrades by gaining points with selected weapons.
The merger did not reduce duplication, because even before, I could “transfer” to avoid repeating the upgrade option of unlocking a weapon. So there should be a way to unlock the weapon upgrade without going through the squad. For example, when using this weapon to fight, you can accumulate experience for the upgrade options of this weapon, just like squads.
