Seems here lately that many times I try to mark a “hold” spot for squad with x, it never marks. What the frick is going on? Is there certain conditions that have to be met? Just seems like it is non-functional many times in any battle on any nation. Edit: Maybe I should clarify - the green x never appears on the ground. The squad does not hold position.

Is that the button that you use to have your guys stand in your line of fire, run out front to get shot and navigate stairs like a handicapped dalek? The issue I run into is marking distances. Sometimes that X is right on top of you even though you are trying to point it 50m forward.

I’d say it might be a map bug; it often happens to me that I hear the orders but the marker doesn’t appear, so I click several times, although sometimes the soldiers just don’t stay. XD
They still get grubby. I speak from experience.

Recently, that’s become really annoying, especially with missions. I’ve lost several kills because my soldier suddenly goes crazy or decides to go out on his own like Rambo, only to get blown up by a sniper or a tank, and in the end, I get killed too because we’re going in the same direction. Sometimes it seems like they’re protecting the enemy more than me XD
I suppose the dirty keyboard theory might account for some of the X not showing up, but what accounts for the AI bots refusing to stay where ordered when the X is clearly visible? That is the biggest issue I have, although, there are times I can pound the shit out of my X key, or the secondary X key I programmed and it doesn’t work.
Dirty keyboard holds no truth with me, my stuff is clean!

Yeah, I just replaced my mouse a couple months ago, and my keyboard is not very old. Even my old keyboard that was three years old had no issues, until I spilled Mt Dew on it.

I had the same just a few battles ago.
I pointed to a place closeby and gave the order with X but no green mark appreared on the selected place.
Repeat, still nothing.
Later it did work again.

It happens to me, usually it is after you have given so many commands. It is either a lag or a glitch, but the X will not appear until you at least swap a few soldiers and jump between them, then I’m usually able to order them to a position while that happens, though, if you are using squad spacing to keep them wider apart or closer together, that will sometimes not work and you cannot set them on passive mode. It’ll show those options as turned on to your current setting, but it will not actually function properly.
