When you spawn a tank, you always start with an AT shell loaded.
I propose that when you spawn a tank or other vehicle with a cannon, the cannon should be empty and immediately start the reload process, this is to allow people to load any shell they want when first spawning.
If a vehicle only has 1 type of ammo to use, then this should be skipped and the vehicle should spawn loaded as they do currently.
Being forced to shoot your cannon at the ground to load other shell types upon first spawning is inconvenient and lets the other team know a tank has spawned from the sound of the cannon.

Yeah, I hate having to fire to change the shell as soon as I spawn. Many don’t realize, but it does give away your position from a distance and makes players aware that an enemy vehicle is on its way. I know it, because I can always hear a tank approaching with that first “blank” shell exploding far away in the grey zone of the map. Also, every player spawns in their vehicle for a different purpose and that could be blasting HE right away or hunting a tank.

I’d rather keep it the way it is, having an enemy tank shoot right off spawn rewards good players for being aware by giving them an early warning that a tank is approaching.
And for most tanks throwing a shell in the dirt isn’t much of a loss.

tanks shouldnt have to broadcast themselves to everybody when they spawn in just because they want to start with a different shell type

You make it sound like a bad thing
Something that’s only useful if you’re in an IS-2
Do you know how guns have one in the chamber so you can for example get 7 + 1 rounds in a m1911? Tanks in this circumstance are the same so what ur asking doesn’t make sense. Also for things like the kv 2 it just means you can’t defend urself for up to 25 seconds

I genuinely don’t understand the logic here. You’re gonna shoot the dirt to switch to HE anyways so you’re not saving time, it actively punishes tanks with long reloads or gives a spawn camping tank an extra second to kill you, and you’re taking away dev time just on the chance that someone hears you firing and gets an early heads up that there’s a tank approaching?
Let’s not pay attention to the fact that someone doing that might already have the vehicle spawns memorized, or will see your machine gun or cannon in the kill feed, or will just mark you anyways without you knowing.
The point is NOT about saving that 1 shell, its being able to spawn in and switch to your ammo type without having to fire your cannon and give away your position
For tanks with 20+ second reloads, just start the reload process at 75% when spawning in then

Why cant tanks simply reload their shells tho?
Safety mechanisms or something that prevent the breech from being opened while a live shell is inserted or something like that. It’s a carry over from warthunder
Surely this “safety mechanism” can be opened or something - you can’t tell me its impossible to reload tank guns.
Its possible but it requires tools and a bit of time to do. That’s just the information I gleaned from quick google searches, I’m not a tank expert or anything

So how is making it reload regardless at the start any better? This suggestion makes zero sense
it means you can spawn in and switch to HE without having to shoot your AP shell at the ground first
So here’s what is the best case scenario of this suggestion: you don’t have to push a button.
Worst case scenario: you’re stuck with a 25 second reload on the kv2, ur unable to quickly react to a tank that is spawn sniping.
The suggestion isn’t to be magically loaded with whatever round. The suggestion is you start off reloading.
Not to mention it means tanks will have to lose a round which means a lot for particular ones
And reveal to the enemy team that you spawned a tank from the sound of your cannon firing, which is significant
Tanks already have spawn protection, plus that’s a separate issue with map balance anyway.
The suggestion never said to reduce ammo at all, so I don’t know why you’re making this up. Tanks would still have the exact same amount of ammo

You still regardless have an issue with larger tanks. And if ur so worried about revealing ur position you can’t wait till you get to the battlefield to switch.
It could work
But this might be better: have an option on the spawning screen like this
Choose your ammo:
APHE/AP/HEAT
HE
Smoke Shell
And You then choose the one You want and once You Spawn the tank Will appear with the Shell loaded
I like having that sound off, mainly because it indicates that the tank isn’t going to try to counter enemy armor but is purely intending to shoot at infantry.
Not to mention that a vast majority of the player base doesn’t even pick up on the sound of an enemy tank firing from spawn. So the only people who are gonna pick up on it are gonna know where you are regardless because of your engine noise, the killfeed, map knowledge, or a mark.
Also tanks don’t have spawn protection, only their crew. So a spawn sniping tank will destroy your tank, but if it does it too fast then your crew will survive
