Please, for the love of god, make the “kill cam” optional already, so both the killer and killed have to “opt in” (i.e. toggle it “on”) to have it show up:
This is how it would work:
- Player A has “kill cam” toggled “OFF”.
- Player B has “kill cam” toggled “ON”.
- Player C has “kill cam” toggled “ON”:
- Player D has “kill cam” toggled “OFF”.
- Player B kills Player C —> “kill cam” shows up (as both have toggled it “ON”)
- Player C kills player B —> “kill cam” shows up (as both have toggled it “ON”)
- Player A kills Player B —> “kill cam” does NOT show up (as one has toggled it “OFF” the other “ON”)
- Player A kills Player C —> “kill cam” does NOT show up (as one has toggled it “OFF” the other “ON”)
- Player B kills Player A —> “kill cam” does NOT show up (as one has toggled it “ON” the other “OFF”)
- Player C kills Player A —> “kill cam” does NOT show up (as one has toggled it “ON” the other “OFF”)
- Player A kills Player D —> “kill cam” does NOT show up (as both have toggled it “OFF”)
- Player D kills Player A —> “kill cam” does NOT show up (as both have toggled it “OFF”)
That way if someone does not want or need “kill cams” they can toggle it off, but someone who needs “kill cams” can have it toggled on, the rest is decided fairly and objectively, showing up for those that opted in, but not showing anyone who has not opted in. Fair and simple.
(honestly I would remove it altogether, but “opting in” is a good middle ground in my humble opinion that should please both sides of the argument)
Why? I am truly sick and tired of doing everything right, flanking the enemy when attacking with my assaulters or finding a good firing position with snipers, infantry or tanks, only to get revenge killed seconds later in 100% of the cases. One often does not even have any time to change position or move off (especially as assaulter). The “kill cam” is by far one of the absolute worst additions to the game since its inception a few years ago (been playing since the start).
I absolutely think that there should be no “handholding” mechanics like “kill cams” at all. People should have to actually LOOK around and use the bloody binoculars (!) to look around (why else do we even have them?!), and not charge forward headless and then get rewarded for being lazy or doing something stupid. I do not mind getting killed if the enemy player made a better move or I overlooked him, next time I will be more careful. I do not WANT nor NEED handlholding → the constant dumbing down of games and game mechanics should STOP for heaven sake!

- No, I need the “kill cam” as I lack situational awareness and need handholding 24/7
Will just be used by physically disabled sniper mains.
Add it but if You have it on You have it on You Will see the death cam regardless if the other player doesnt

Simple so we can’t stop the sniper spam and force more than half the playerbase to do something else than cycling snipers
You should rewrite your “yes” option as follow:
“Yes I want killcam to be optional because I’m a little wimp who snipe from attics entire matchs and cannot for the life of me stand it when the enemy shoot back at me. I’m scared of hardships”

Removing the sniper squad completely… or at least the ability for newer players to get it first is a start.

Uhm it is not about snipers, don’t you get that? For snipers it would be simplest to go the same path as with tanks: Allow just 2 of them to spawn (counting additional snipers in squads!) AND remove the grey zone alttogether so paratroopers can finally do their historical jobs!
What I am talking about is the entire “kill cam” mechanic in general:
- it is arcady,
- is is awarding lazy gamers that just want to run straight to the objective not looking right or left
- if you do everything right and actually manage to flank the enemy or get to their rear with your ASSAULTERS or INFANTRY squad (NOT BLOODY TALKING ABOUT SNIPERS FOR GOD SAKE!) or if you make a retreating fight when the “zone” changes, you are punished as the enemy can use the lazy “kill cam” to know exactly where you are.
So essentially the kill cam promotes “lemming behaviour”: do not look right or left, run to the point, and if someone kills you you get shown where they are so you do not have to do any real work.
Great like gameplay for toddlers. I do not get it how can a serious gamer want that mindless handholding crap?!

It is, I see the kill cam as exactly what is it: Handlholding for those kind of players that lack situational awareness. It is a crutch that is unnecessary in this game in my humble opinion.

I disliked it since they introduced it way back (and I honestly never understood the need for it because it is lazy gameplay - you manage to get around the enemy and hit them and they know exactly where you are).
@OggeKing - Look if you do want the kill cam - good for you I guess - but there are others that do not want it. So why not make it optional?! Then those that want/need/care for it can have it and the others do not have to worry about it anymore. Would be so simple.
Or introduce a “hardcore mode” or something like that where you do not have it at all.
It’s not optional if someone else can turn it off for me, that’s what your suggestion is about.
It is “opt in”, you would have an unfair advantage if someone says “no I do not what that at all” but you still get to know where they are exactly. You get that, right?
That’s on you for adjusting your settings suboptimally.
I don’t cry foul if I set my mouse sensitivity ridiculously high or low, but everyone else plays like normal.

Look, it would be nice to include as, say, an option for when you create a custom battle, to turn off all kill-cams.
A “realistic” regular gamemode I wouldn’t be opposed to, either.
But this will ultimately just be a huge buff for greyzone camping tanks and sniper mains. You might not identify or play as one, but everyone here has rightly noticed with their pattern-seeking brains that the system, as described by you, will get abused, and will ultimately lead to unfun games.
I guess what we have here this is a typical example of how human nature works: humans always tend to go the easiest way if possible, so those players that desperately want the “kill cam” simply do not want to give up the easy way of doing things (and lets be honest it is just super easy) and want to get their “killers” served on a silver platter without having to actually do any work to find them (and maybe learn what mistake they made like for example not looking around enough). In my humble opinion that is a bit sad.
