Make AI soldiers remove enemy fortifications blocking pathing

What it says in the title. There currently seems to be a “funneling” meta going where people put tactical barbed wire in some obscure location, that either causes soldiers to freeze in place indefinitely, or to take massive detours in single file along a predictable path.

I honestly think it was better when they just ran into the barbed wire. But ideally, I’d like to have both - They should run into the barbed wire, then begin to remove it on their own while taking damage. Maybe the wire deconstruct time could be lengthened a bit to compensate. Thoughts?

Currently you can order them to destroy enemy fortifications, although it would be interesting if they did so automatically when they don’t detect danger

They should run into the barbed wire, then begin to remove it on their own while taking damage. Maybe the wire deconstruct time could be (Accumulated, by each attempt, by bots?) a bit to compensate

that way it would eventually come down, as it resets?

And have notice the increased used of barbed wire again, in all the wrong places.

I don’t think it would need to accumulate. It would still get destroyed fast if multiple soldiers stack on it. Not sure.
My main point is that manipulating enemy AI pathing is an annoying tactic that should be restrained.

Bots can already spot enemies from very far away, aim through vegetation, one shoot in HTH combat, and now they should be able to clean defenses even when the actual squad player can’t even notice them ?!? Sounds like a bit too much.

yeah idk,
so any thing i build to stop a player getting in, would also block your bots?,
therefore, am i manipulating, when i build?
PS i don’t use wire, it stops your own team, more than enemy.

Yes, because of how the system works now (soldiers do not pass certain fortifications) you manipulate pathing when you block entrances with fortifications. I don’t think it’s a good game mechanic, it relies on broken AI and farming of bots to win games, and is annoying to deal with. But to some extent, sandbags and barbed wire is meant to hinder enemy progress. It’s just too good now.

You making some stuff is not the problem. The problem is people who know exactly where to put it, so 1 or 2 fortifications can stall the whole enemy team. The AI does not move at all if you do it right, like you’ve seen with your own team while using wire. If you get it into enemy spawn paths there are some stupid tricks you can do… Or troll your own team if you want. I think it’s not good.

Most of the obstacles that the player can pass are impassable for the AI, but obviously if the player can pass them it stands to reason that the AI should be able to as well. For example, if you place a Czech hedgehog in a barn or narrow passageway, the player can easily get around it by sticking to the wall, but the AI doesn’t feel the same way.

Noticed the “AI pathing” meta myself the other day when I started running into random sandbags and barbed wire out in the open. @Crosby_211 makes sense that I saw a Czech hedgehog in a doorway in Stalingrad now.

I swear, something about this game brings out the cheesers
