When I run out of ammo and switch to another soldier, the AI just runs around with a melee weapon or a gun out of ammo and I manually have to pick up a weapon off a dead soldier for him.
It would be great if AI could pick up weapons off the ground or resupply ammo at an ammo crate.
AI has unlimited ammo. So if one of your bots is out of bullets it’s because you’ve used it all.
If you still have AI and less than 40% of a last magazine (so 2/5 bullets in the gun and 0 spare) you can ask your AI for ammo and they will give you one magazine (5 bullets in this example). AI soldier won’t loose any bullets so it’s unlimited ammo as long as you have bots.
I often use this option with LMGs.

They can’t even make the AI face the right direction when enemies are firing on them, climb through windows or be anything more than just decorations designed to populate the battlefield and pad K/Ds. Let alone pick up different weapons.
The better option is just to have AI run to a nearby ammo box and refill on ammo.
Personally I would like to see AI actually consume ammo so there would be a lot less instances of endless bot fire, but that’s just me.
