Myself am somewhat divided at the recent custom battles changes;
Looking at it as a very basic grinding player (i am indeed grinding) i will probably farm my daily tasks, achievements and even PS trophies in custom battles. All of that while improving my soldiers and winning bronze orders, with the least of worries and competition. This looks super beneficial for me and allows me to sacrifice immersion and fun for pure gameplay development in campaigns. Essentially farm the game at my leisure.
If i look at it from another point of view, i will say; this makes the base squadron mode redundant and in some point, even diminishes the motivation to play because i know some players will be farming customs instead of playing all on the same battles. This leads to a feeling of the community being divided and everyone playing their own game. This could lead to a decrease on the players and the focus of the regular modes.
This game has a lot of potential, that is part of the reasons of why i like it; in what it could become?
I am not sure if developers did this XP change for a test or from community suggestions. I assume they consciously understood the possibilities of farming and made peace with that. I am not sure if the system is here to stay while a different major change in the game economy is planned. I am sure the community is somewhat divided about the issue. Some think the XP gains are fine in customs while others regard it as a detrimental step for the game.
Therefore i would recommend the devs either take a decision themselves based on already existing data, or preferably, run a poll to the community to let majority of players input their point of view and vote.
And i reiterate, if I look at this as a grinding currently Free2play player, i will say is great. But from other point of view this is not right for the future of the game.
Some options for the poll could be:
75% rewards
50% rewards
No XP progress on Custom battles
25% rewards with the ability to add a password
50% rewards with the ability to add a password
Rewards with boosters effect disabled
Please share your points of view or ideas below, but aim to be respectful with each other. We can disagree but remember most of us are here because we like the game.
Would be fine if they reintroduce lone fighters and introduce the new hardcore squad mode to regular matchmaking (needs some fine tuning, getting shot by your own bot in the back and losing points is far from perfect).
This is the first genuine argument I’ve seen against xp rewards in custom battles, but I still disagree. I think adding this PVE option is more likely to add players from an audience the game didn’t previously serve, and people who like and want PVP combat will still be playing standard queues. Time will tell if I’m wrong shrug.
Additionally, if a poll is made, it should be posted here, on the reddit, the official discord, and any other official social media for the game, and the votes totaled. The Forum community doesn’t include and isn’t necessarily representative of the whole of the playerbase.
It’s not at 100% though. Where do You got that info?
Same score on normal and custom will get You diffrent xp, right now it’s on 50% from my testing.
But the matches are free of bullshit - no joining on losing team, and You always win when solo.
So on normal matches You get more xp if You are first and win.
Good luck doin that on more >90% of matches though.
The xp is already so low, i can’t even.
How do some people want to make it lower? Do You plan of only playing one campaign for 200 hours? Doesn’t it get boring? We have so much content, yet people are somhow fine with playing 12,5% of the game for half a year. wtf. THIS IS STILL BETA
I saw a cool solution somewhere: No campaign progress, but 100% progress of squads and fighters. That seems like a good solution to me. You can grind the first levels of squads, but to grind the campaign you need to play by the general rules.
This is a complex matter.
Farming alone in a custom battle against bots should give less XP than a normal battle.
But playing in a custom battle full of human players (because they liked the setting, or are teams or friends) should give same XP as a normal battle.
So XP should be tied to the number of bots in the battle (more bots, less XP).
I think it’s better for them to directly provide a dedicated PVE mode. I just want to gain experience by killing bots, and then get better equipment to kill bots more easily. And this game originally hoped to lead a team to fight, so why not allow players to PVE. I don’t want to fight with players at all, I just want to kill AI squads to get happiness.
