M2 Carbine is actually better than FG 42

in a couple of matches

You should buy those for every one of your soldiers and just prove the point we are all making

i’m aware that those weapons are powerfull. and if you would pay attention enough, i already answered for that matter.

cool, I’d be interested to see what it’s like in full auto.

I have the M2 and the recoil is crazy. Muzzle rise is intense and you completely lose any sight picture that you had while you fight the recoil. It almost seems unrealistic as the entire gun appears to be flipping muzzle up, as if the butt of the rifle wasn’t actually seated in the shooter’s shoulder.

Pay attention? Uhh what did I miss? You currently have the sniper version and are going to get the standard One next which will be for everyone.

so yeah, i’m well aware of the m2 and fg being able to be used on everyone. just like i sugged in many other threads, the FG42 should only be locked for the mortar battalion. as they are the only paratrooper unit for the germans.
explained here better:

like, put it as an SMG so that people will only be able to use 2 fgs42 or 1 fg42 and 1 fg42 II.

Ahh from a different thread. I havent followed all of them. There have been many over the past few days about the FG42

yeah.

pretty much.

and being able to give everyone fgs and m2. doesn’t sounds particulary fun nor interestring ( in terms of balance of course )

Once people start hitting level 23 we will see many more thread about it

Honestly, I think the FG42 should be considered as an LMG for the gunner division.

wouldn’t make much sense though. because it’s not a light machinguns like many people thinks.

it’s truee that it has 20 rounds magazine, but it’s not equal as it works differently

Oh I see. My bad then.

It was more of a proto assault rifle idea as it was intended to do everything making it very hard to classify. Its caliber, automatic capability and magazine size put it more in line with something like a BAR or a ZB26 but it’s something else. Hard to balance but it shouldnt go to everyone that’s for sure

I think the FG42 issue could be resolved by making paratroopers an actual soldier class (that for example gets to spawn anywhere on the map they choose) and giving them exclusively access to these kinds of weapons.

wouldn’t make much sense though. because it’s not a light machinguns like many people thinks.

Well it wouldnt be that abnormal, the FG 42 is an Auto rifle, like the BAR, and some games that feature the BAR as a weapon, make it a weapon exclusive to the machine gunner (in Post Scriptum it takes up the MG gunner slot, in Rising Storm 2 its available to the MG gunner class). This is because the BAR fires a full length rifle cartridge (as opposed to an intermediate, or sub caliber round), and is fully automatic (these 2 things are generally what makes a machine gun, a machine gun in ww2), the FG-42 is also a fully automatic weapon, that fires a full length rifle cartridge, unlike a gun like the STG, which fires an intermediate cartridge, making it an assault rifle rather than a machine gun.

For this reason, i don’t see why the FG-42 cant be made exclusive to the MG class like the BAR is.

If you step back a bit from pure gameplay and take a look at the roles the weapons were suppused to fulfikk during their service it makes a lot of sense. The British had the Bren, the Soviets the DP-27, Nazi Germany used squads based around a GPMG on the other side the US took a different way with the Automatic rifle.
This concludes to the BAR being in Game the appropriate type of “LMG” weapon for the US while the SU, Ger and the not yet included British have LMGs/GPMGs for the Machine gunners.
In the topics about the FG-42 it is often cited that the FG-42 was also intended as an LMG among other roles. While this is true, the idea behind the Gun was also to be a replacement for the K98 (production was waaay behind that but what means broduction numbers in this game…). As a matter of fact the FG-42 was a rival for the Mkb. for a while (Airforce interest vs Army interest about which gun should be mass produced).
It’s a bit off but I’m convinced that a lot of the hesitations against the FG-42 as an infantry man’s rifle in Enlisted comes down to the fact that the M1/M2 carbines are firstly not doinf well right now because of a bit overtuned recoil and furthermore the idea that each gun must have a direct counterpart. If the recoil of the M1 would be a bit toned down I would prefer it any day ofer the FG-42 for all the village/“urban” areas.
Even now I quiet enjoy to use it offensivley as a close quater hipfire weapon.

update, i have the fg 42.

and here is a test:

despite being full auto, the recoil it’s a bit harder to controll even if using bipod.

and the semi auto fire rate it’s slower than the fg42 II.

the only difference, is that the fg42 carrys more ammonution (the soldier in the video, it’s without pouches)
and it has full auto selector for close quarters.

but, i would say that the sniper version it’s more deadlier. because for experience, in hipfire it’s a lazer weapon. and it gets almost full auto as shown in the first FG 42 II test. even without bipod. recoil is less, and above all, it comes with a scope.

Exactly. FG 42 is not so op as many of them thought…

unfortunally, i cannot perform test on the m2 as i do not have the gun in the first place.

despite not being used in this campaign, i think it’s for further campaigns.

dunno, although more test and further fixes should be applied ( if it’s really that strong ).

Personally this isnt the reason i dont want the FG-42 to stay a trooper weapon. The reason I am against the FG-42 (and the M2 carbine) as a trooper weapon, because its a full auto weapon available to the trooper class. Troopers are made to be the most common class of troop in a squad, its the only class that isn’t limited in number and can theoretically fill up any squad, trooper weapons can also be used by every other class. Which means if you had enough silver orders, you can theoretically give every soldier in all of your squads an FG-42.

Since the most common infantry weapons in WW2 were Bolt-action and Semi-automatic, it would make sense to only give the trooper access to bolt action and semi auto rifles, after all, it wouldn’t make much sense for the majority of soldiers on a ww2 battlefield to have access to fully automatic weapons.

Then there is the 2nd problem, balance. Machine guns straight up have more DPS than most Trooper weapons, they usually fire bullets that do the same or similar damage to their semi and bolt action rifle counterparts in a fully automatic weapon, but its OK, because Machine guns are limited in the sense that only the Machine gunner class can equip them. You have to sacrifice a specialist in another area to use an MG, which means there is a tradeoff for such power. Giving the Germans a weapon that can match the firepower of a BAR (same mag size, similar damage, similar fire rate) to a trooper completely invalidates that trade off for the high tier Germans, they get a weapon on par with a machine gun that can be equipped by anyone. The M2 also has this same problem, being an assaulter worthy weapon that can also be equipped by all, effectively making the Assaulter less useful, since every trooper and other specialist can theoretically be equipped with a weapon that can compete with SMG’s in close quarters.
