The intentions of this suggestion are simple: There currently isn’t a BR 4 rifle for the Allies, and the easiest way to implement something at this battle rating that was also used widespread in WW2 is to buff the M1 Garand in-game. The existing variant of the M1 Garand at BR 3 would be replaced with the M1 Garand with the Gas Trap system.
Sure, it only holds 8 rounds, but the stripper clip reload speed, as well as other stats, can be buffed to compensate. An analogy could be to make the M1 Garand “the 39M Kiraly” of BR 4 semi-auto rifles. It has the lowest mag capacity, but the rest of the stats are excellent. We also already have the M1C Garand at BR 4, so this isn’t necessarily a stretch to also have a Rifleman Garand at BR 4, and the M1C’s stats could also be buffed to match this rebalanced M1 Garand Gas Port at BR 4.

I also think the early M1 Garand with the Gas Trap system can be added to BR 3, replacing the existing M1 Garand with the Gas Port system. In a way, these weapons would also be analogous to the Gewehr 41 and Gewehr 43, which in a lot of ways are the same weapon system, except the gas system was changed from an annular gas trap to a gas port.
PROPOSED STATS:
14.0 (16.8) Damage
8 Round Magazine
2.0 Second Reload
380 or 420 Rounds Per Minute
70 Vertical Recoil
22 Horizontal Recoil
Any constructive thoughts or feedback are appreciated!

I think the Garand being a single-reload rifle whith marginally less ammo capacity than it’s otherwise more common 10-round dual clip rifle peers, is probably the best location it coule be in. The BR IV Allied rifle gap is better solved by something new, like mag-fed Johnson rifle for the US, and possibly a Australian(/Electrolux) Charlton for the Commonwealth.
It is also worth to consider that most of the US historical gear is BR II and III, only really missing a M1919A6 (easily solved with a 50-round version in BR III). M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompsons, BARs, and 75 Shermans… all iconic, present on all fronts (late or early). A historical BR III US deck is probably the most competative one out of any other historical deck, just because they’re almost all so conveniently grouped together.
It would be quite unfortunate for people with historical or historically inspired line-ups to have to go without the Garand in BR III… it would be unfortunate that we could never see the Garand in Tunisia…

If you read the topic, you would see that I want to also add the M1 with the Gas Trap to BR 3 to replace the existing one. I simply can’t bundle both into one suggestion.
Also, just because an M1 Garand is added to BR IV, doesn’t mean the other weapons you mentioned can’t be added as well.

I don’t think using a different gas system warrents such drastically different characteristics… do they even look meaningfully different from the outisde?
I’m not going to agree to uptiering everything else that is also American…

Gas Trap vs Gas Port. The weapons are about as visually different as, and more functionally different than the SVT-38 and SVT-40. Their characteristics are also set for BR 3 and BR 4.
What do you mean “uptiering everything else”? This is only talking about the later variant of the M1 Garand to help fill out the tech tree, while replacing it at BR 3 with an earlier variant.

This assumes that the current depiction if the SvT 38/40 isn’t itself an issue which most people wants to see resolved…
By making the 38 reload via clips… a way more satisfying and mecahnical difference than “this one magically shoots harder”.
Ah, sorry, I thought you were talking about my list of US gear, not the two rifles I mentioned seperately.
In that case, the problem is instead just that… this solution is incredably… bland… boring. Especially since we do have other more interesting options a ailable to us, that don’t then involve stats gymnastics to make it competative…
The Gas Trap Garand would be better as a collector’s item… it’s not meaningfully different enough, or common enough, to be much else…

I love this idea, but it seems like the GL version would make this version obsolete immediately as they are the same gun and would therefore have the same buffed stats. They would be the same but one would have a GL. How do you plan to solve this? Will the GL version not get buffs?
Okay, these are fair arguments against the solution.
To myself and many players, damage is a balance stat. It’s why the aforementioned SVT-38 and SVT-40 do different damage, the MP 38 and MP 40 do different damage, a bolt-action rifle and semi-auto rifle with the same cartridge and muzzle velocity will do vastly different damage. There are certainly other examples too. If this is a precedent to allow for the game to achieve balance within a Battle Rating system, I’m all for it. I understand that some people aren’t, and they have a right to believe that.
It’s perhaps a “boring” solution, but like you said, the Garand is iconic. I really like the idea of an M1 Garand that’s actually relevant at BR 4 (possibly even BR 5 if the universal semi-auto buffs I discussed in my recent YT video came to fruition). But at the same time, you can have multiple solutions to the same problem. What if there was also the Electrolux Charlton, or Howell Automatic Rifle, or literally anything else that is a 10 round detachable magazine from the USA or Commonwealth? Just like how the M1 Garand and Johnson Rifle coexist at BR 3, a Garand and a 10 round detachable mag semi can coexist at BR 4.
I don’t see why it couldn’t also be buffed? And also, it is BR 4 as well.
Well, why would you choose the non GL one?
I guess that’s a fair point. Might have to make it BR 5, or maintain the otherwise BR 3 stats.

Wouldn’t really use the famously not well balanced weapon as an example of how weapon balance can or should be handled.
