Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought a “Level for battle pass” kept your score from going back down. I have acheived 1st Lt but keep falling back down, not a big deal, I have hit Marshall last two seasons, but curious about this. Edit: I understand the reset that happens after new season. Nothing to do with that.

I stopped trying for Marshall several BP sessions ago, but after obtaining Marshall I believe I always got dropped back to First or Second Lieutenant if I remember correct.
No, that’s the reward you get for reaching a rank.
After the BP season ends, you are set back in rank.
How far, depends on the rank you had achieved.
I had reached major general, giving me 50 points to carry over to the new BP season, making me start as 2nd lieutenant in the new seaon.
The rank on the combat pass is reset every month [usually dropping to 50 points] and starts anew. To reach 200 points.
If the number of times you participate in the game is not many, then there is no need to worry about these.
This was originally intended as some so-called honors for those players who have been playing for a long time.
