If I’m building something as an engineer and swap soldiers while building, could we have the engineer finish building what I started? If I only have one engineer in my squad then I can’t make a build order and it feels like I could be doing more important and fun things than staring at the ground for ~15 seconds.

You can order bot engineers to finish building.
You can only do that if you’re an engineer with another engineer in your squad. You need to have your hammer out to order a bot to complete building (as the blueprint isn’t visible otherwise) and you can’t do the command when none of the AI are engineers.

Some way to order the engine to start building with the radial menu and not have to swap to him at all would be even better
Most of the build commands need a precise placement. I don’t see how can they add it to the game without making a big mess of the interface, if your wish is to e.g. have your assaulter order your engineer to build an AT turret.
They could just give access to the blueprints via the radial menu, like the new quick chat menu.
It’s been done fine in the past, just pick the object have the template move as you look around, mouse wheel to rotate and release alt to place. Limit it to be near to the player to stop funky stuff.
So it could be the same representation as the engineer’s build command, just not via hammer but ALT-menu, and once blueprint placed, you could go away (not too far away) and protect your engineer?
I guess in this case the distance limit should be somewhat stricter, like not more than 10-15 meters to avoid tricky tactics. (Or maybe an engineer left alone more than few meters could build half the speed to compensate for the effectiveness of this alternate tactics? Don’t know whether it’s necessary, just an idea.)
EDIT: the ‘X’ build command does the same just less accessible; so maybe no point in making it slower/more strict than it is right now.
Ai still doesn’t know to change back to the main weapon after building anything, just died with hummer.
