a long time ago in a galaxy far away I was in Air Training Corps (high school age airforce cadet corps) and we did firearms drills with those things - they were de-natured, and we were doing SLR (FNFAL) type drills rather than the proper ones for the SMLE…
some 12-13 year old cadets were barely taller than the rifles!
