Leaning. What is its purpose in Enlisted?

Generally speaking, leaning is used to present a smaller target to the enemy when looking out from a vertical cover. It’s usually added to games where either the cost of dying is very high or there is a very high chance of getting killed in one hit.

In Enlisted, though:

  1. every life is dirt cheap, especially in the game mode with bot squads;
  2. one-hit-kill rifles are among the least dangerous and they rarely one-hit-kill soldiers health perks.

So why do we have leaning? I suppose it’s somewhat immersive, except that way too often people use it when out of cover to “dodge” bullets by swaying left and right or to just present a weirdly shaped target. Which brutally destroys immersion instead of adding to it. Not to mention that it also affects gameplay in weird ways and only makes it less realistic (despite being a realistic feature, paradoxically).

Why not remove it entirely? It’s a shame to remove features, but it doesn’t fit the game and it’s easier to remove one feature than it is change the rest of the game. At the very least they could add inertia, reduce accuracy and increase recoil when leaning outside of cover, but I don’t know if I trust them with implementing such a complex measure properly and in a timely manner.

I personally enjoy movement tech. The ability to lean in combination of sprint-jumping leads to some really weird visual hitboxes for the enemy to aim for.

That’s why I I preferred the higher movement speed form before.

it has legitimate niche applications. Sometimes it’s the only way to get into the shooting position you want while being blocked by some other object.

Just shoot them in the dick. Their torso moves, not their hips and legs and they don’t usually take that into consideration. God bless and have a good thread.

I never said that it’s too effective or that I can’t deal with it. It’s just immersion breaking and in my opinion is unnecessary or at the very least needs to be adjusted.

If this was a “finished” game (as if an online-only game can ever be finished without being dead) I wouldn’t have made this point, but Enlisted is still in closed beta. Its identity and features are not set in stone yet, this kind of questions can and should be raised I think.

You get better damage multipliers against upper torso than lower torso.

I’m know
But a hit is better than missing some wiggling dickhead.

Maybe I´m just weird, but I personaly found a lot of use to that feature (but that may be just me favouring sniper kind of gameplay where leaning is often very useful), especially in mid range with action bolts. In general, I find myself using leaning from behind corners, windows, etc. in every battle so I wouldn´t say it is pointless feature.

So, rather than asking why it is here, I would probably ask why it shouldn´t be here. Also it is nothing gamebreaking, so suggesting to remove that feature would be wasting time spent on implementing and deleting it.
We have lot of far worse and more important issue than that.

Not sure why nothing registered with you beyond the title. I already gave a reason why not. It’s the same reason why it’s not a thing in Battlefield, Counter-Strike and Call of Duty. It serves next to purpose and even gets in the way.

You on the other hand didn’t give any meaningful reasons. Nothing outside of “I use the fifth wheel on my cart and thus it’s useful” and “but there are bigger issues, so let’s ignore smaller ones because they are too small, just as we ignore bigger ones because they are too big”.

I guess this kind of reaction is exactly what I should have expected from the people who stayed with such a game. It’s almost fascinating to watch the kind of swamp the forums turn into with projects like Enlisted.

Literally using leaning every time i play with every soldier, its not only immersion increase, but also gives you more cover and less visibility for your enemy, which means you have extra second or milisecond to make first shot, which is very important in enlisted

  • furthermore - bots have less reaction agains leaning (less / none agro, same as flanking from cover, can stay completely undetected)
  • you can increase your height by leaning to actually shot from trenches where without leaning its not possible (this one is really stupid, but it works)

those benefits cross with AI abusing, however i like to think its actually a game feature, as humans we to adapt for bots behavior, so most of tricks to increase survivability are legit

Well, since I´m leaning Shrek, I´m supposed to guard my leaning swamp, right?
The point of that post was, that I do not consider that feature a fifth wheel. And it is pleasing to see in-game, that I´m far from the only one. I honestly do not understand why you are so salty about it. Since we have more leaning Shreks around, you should consider to just tolerate that feature, since it is not harmful to the gameplay.
So to sum it up, leaning is probably far from useless to more people than just me, thus it actually have enough purpose to be in game.

I’ve never seen the wiggling you’re referring to. If it does happen, which it must to a small degree just because it’s possible to do, it’s no different than someone hopping up and down or dancing around by mashing wasd like some like to.
