After nearly 80 hours spent in the game, I came to the conclusion that there is an itch that this game cannot scratch. When I started playing, I tended to be further out from the combat and used bolt action rifles to successfuly kill the enemy. I also tried to keep my soldiers alive. Not too long after I realised that the best way to win at this game is just to plow forward indefinitely until a CP is captured. It is just a meat grinder with the addition of bots that you kill or they get killed. Conquest consists of running in circles towards the enemy CP, Invasion consists of mindless rush towards the CP, while Assault (Assult in game, idk why the typo was not fixed yet…) has some width, but its a mix of Invasion and Conquest.
There is no “calm before the storm” moments in the game, it is always pushing, it is just noise without direction. There is always a plane in the air, always a tank on the ground, artillery coming in, grenades flying, to the point that arguably the sniper class is completely useless since the same can be done with normal rifles, engineer emplacements are worthless because everything moves so fast and can be destroyed so easily. There is no direction, no defending, no suspense. What I would kindly suggest is the following Conquest-type gamemodes:
I would very much like to see this kind of a setup in conquest form, even as a separate gamemode that has no progression. With the same ammount of players and vehicles as in Squads, so it doesnt tax the netcode, only change being slower capture timers. This means that tanks cannot just jump around or cover the whole map, airplanes must pick their targets for the run and infantry has to approach objectives in a different manner. As we are already playing on the whole map, just with the playfield reduced, this shouldn’t stress the performance any further, the only demanding task in this case is most likely the AI pathfinding.
I am wishing for a moment where I see flak tracers in the distance and have to walk for 3 minutes to attack the enemy AA position, or maybe come over a hill just to see the manor well defended with barbed wire and sandbags, and MGs in the windows. Plus rallies and transport would actually make a difference.
