Russian and Japan being neighbors have long fought over their respective borders even before WW2. Even now the Kuril Islands remain a point of contention between the two powers.

The battle for the islands took place days after the official surrender of Japan to the allied powers. Even after being ordered to surrender the Japanese garrison fought a combined naval army Airforce unit from the Soviet Union.

The islands even now are sparsely populated with only 20 000 residents. The climate is cold with sparce vegetation rarely larger than a medium sized bush. These Volcanic island lacked the entrenched fortifications of more southern pacific islands.

While a brief and small battle by WW2 standards the battle shows the fierce determination of both powers not to give an inch. The battle included air, armor and infantry leaving wrecks that like many far flung WW2 battle remain in place even today.

I would love to add more maps to the Japanese Soviet front even if they are a bit bare. i am suer we could find more than a few idea’s of enviroments that could be added to any battlefield
People said the same thing about the territory china took or took back from russia still I do doubt much will change unless japan a buys Russian oil or b sells them weapons
Tiny island (less than 1 km²) which according to modern international law did sit closer to China is not really comparable to inhabited islands.
But we’ll see.

There is a bird in our country that thinks about the Northern Territories 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Anyway, if a map of the Kuril Islands were hypothetically added, the person at DMM in charge of the Japanese localization would probably be clutching their head.
