Hi all, hope the events are going well. I’d like to suggest the implementation of a knock down mechanic that temporally downs soldiers within a set blast radius of an explosion, eg. Aircraft bomb, HE shell. I suggest this as we find our HE shells land close to infantry targets but don’t kill them when in reality a person would not be doing particularly well if something just exploded 6ft from them. We already have concussion effects and the animation for being downed so this shouldn’t be too hard. If DF were to add some form of ragdoll effects to this as well it could provide more realistic and cinematic gameplay.
Thanks for reading and I hope your matches are blessed with plentiful rally points.
Would be cool, big bombs also generate shock waves not just shrapnel. Falling to the ground after a 250kg bomb or bigger exploding would increase realism
Soldiers ragdolling around would probably look bad, but a decently made “stumbling - standing back up” animation could also apply to other situations. In example, when taking fall damage, and for landing paratroopers.
If caused by explosions, in order to prevent or at least limit abuses, it would be probably best if it was only triggered if soldiers are within damage area (or within heavy concussion range), and only from “big” boom sources that would reasonably create a shockwave. Aircraft bombs or rockets? Sure. Hand grenades? Nope, except maybe explosion packs. Tank shells? Only if the explosive charge is larger than a certain minimum.
This way, it wouldn’t be game breaking, because it would only happen in circumstances where you’d already get temporarily incapacitated by heavy concussion and/or downed anyway.
Considering the amount of HE Spam that can occur in this game; a knock down mechanic, I do not feel is a very good idea. I also feel it would ruin the flow that the game does have. Enlisted is not a simulator. It is an historical authentic (not accurate) arcade-ish shooter with some squad command and several reasonable liberties taken. IE, we don’t have random red dots on m1 Garands storming Normandy with people running faster than Usain Bolt while carrying 50+lbs of gear "power sliding over rocks with special forces and superpowers everywhere. Weapons are relatively authentic with some adjustments for weapon balancing in place. The movement is actually fairly decent, just needs some polish on the animations.
I don’t think you actually understand the word “simulator”, but its ok, there are many others on the forums that have also misappropriated this word.
Irrespective of that, having realistic effects in game does not actually equate to it being a simulator, not by a long shot.
Being knocked down by HE effects would be useful in disrupting the run and gun game, and as such its not a bad idea per se, particularly as the alternative to being knocked down should be being killed or incapacitated, I know which one I’d prefer…
