Alright, so, the Merge has happened. We officially have queues of 1, 2, 3 and 3, 4, 5. Honestly? Not looking too bad. Bolt actions are the most efficient. Full Auto’s are the most forgiving. These, at least for Riflemen, have now been separated by a divide. Unfortunately, Semi Auto’s are still kinda garbage. I’d probably take a Springfield over an M1 Carbine, and the M1 Garand I have my issues with. I’ve heard countless complaints about various other Semi Auto’s in the game. So, why not throw BR III a bone? After all everyone’s super upset they have to fight BR V’s all the time. Wouldn’t it be a lot easier if Semi Auto’s were worth at least half the Silver you put into them?
So, let’s de-nerf Semi Auto’s and turn them into what they should be. The Carbine’s should deal at least a bit more damage, TTK should be better than a pistol that’s for darn certain. The M1 Garand and the M1903 Springfield should be pretty much identical in damage as their ballistics are near identical with the same exact round coming out of them. And the rest should mirror these kinds of changes
As long as they remove that stupid dispersion sh*t from all the SA im happy.
I would also make them do more damage, full star SA should deal the same damage of 1 star mosin carabine (for example). That way semis could kill in 1 shot like 70% of the time.
It’s a change that needs to be made. Anything rifle caliber should do at least rifle damage. It would make the game very interesting IMO if they calculated hit power as a function of muzzle velocity and bullet weight. (Especially since it’s a projectile.) Then we can argue over RPM/recoil balances and BR balances as needed. Just make my 30.06 fire like a damn 30.06.
You can’t really de-nerf semi autos unless you have an economic model that puts enough of a premium on their price that BA’s remain the best option for cash-strapped nationalities.
BA’s may be “most efficient” on a measure of the ability to kill per bullet, but that isn’t’ all there is in the game.
At short range or if on a bipod for some - others are just rubbish at everything and not worth taking most of the time, like the Madsen, Breda, Vickers-Berthier
Semi-autos are fine for those of us who often miss a first shot - getting that 2nd shot to hit <1/2 second later is a very useful function.
I’m not gonna lie, I do rush my shots with the Garand which is absolutely a me problem
But I mean come on the ballistics between the M1903 and the M1 are near identical. There is 0 reason the M1 does like what? Half the damage of the M1903? What it fricking feels like at least. Fricking 2-3 shots to kill on average. Meanwhile the M1 Carbine has about the same TTK as most of the pistols in the game. Tell me how that makes sense
i highly doubt that people are using the m1 carbine with m8 launcher for the rifle and not exclusively the launcher. hell most of my br 2 matches i’ve been in i’ve rarely seen anyone else but me use the carbine don’t matter if it’s the rifle grenades variant or the normal one. how ever i will conceding that any and all rifle grenades should be br 3 at the minimum.
It makes sense if you want a game where bolt action rifles have any reason to be used AND you do not have an economic model that reflects teh costs associated with replacing them as per “real life”.
If you don’t have that economic model then why use BA’s at all?
Remember that in 1941 the USSR had mor automatic rifles than the rest of the world combined at about 1.7 million - US troops were still mostly equipped with M1903’s at the start of 1942.
180k or so M1 Garands have been produced by het start of 1941, and >400k by December, then really only took off in1942 when they got to 2 million/month in 1943!! See monthly figures at - not hte number is the final serial number produced in that month, so the monthly production is the difference between that number and hte previous one: U.S. M1 Garand Rifle Production - Springfield Armory National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service)
Note that 5 million or so had been produced by hte end of 1944 across all manufacturers
Everyone in the war had some plan to replace BA’s with SLR’s at some stage - but only hte USA had the economic wherewithal to actually do so.
Everywhere else the need to not interrupt production lines took priority - the the USSR almost completely stops producing SLR’s in favour of Mosins, Germany makes some in their typical inefficient fashion, but everywhere else abandons them.
ETA: to make clear the production figures are total by hte end of hte month, not the number produced in that month!
The reality is that with the BR system we can reward using later equipment. I see basically no reason to equip an entire squad with a 3k silver rifle that does half the damage of a Springfield. Why would I even consider the M1C Sniper at the ungodly tier 5 pricetag when I can get a rifle that kills from over 100m for 500 silver?
When the campaigns threw everyone together with no regard for skill or experience it made sense to nerf the semi’s. That reasoning no longer persists.
