Everyone knows the famous story of Japan purchasing a Tiger I, but few know that in addition to the Tiger they also purchased a Panther Ausf D, Panzer III Ausf J1, and Panzer III Ausf N.
I think it would be cool to one day eventually have these vehicles. They would and should be rare event prizes like the Tiger.
Yes it is a little unrealistic like the Japanese Tiger itself, but we can look at it as Japan did actually purchase these tanks and if the circumstances were different they may have actually ended up reaching Japan. They bought and technically owned them, so sure why the heck not. It’s a little bit of “Axis Aid” like the Allies Lend Lease.
considering how few event squads japan has, can’t really say no to this.
they got the tiger already, which imo, it’s better than the one suggested. but choices as long historical much like the actual tiger ( even though was never received, but placed on some orders ) are welcome.
so i don’t see why not.
it’s not like everyone does not have ofhenror already …
Japan did purchase and own these vehicles, there was an attempt to ship them but the plan didn’t work out. That’s good enough in my book
I have the Japanese Tiger but I don’t use it all the time, it’s just a cool event vehicle based on the famous story. These are just unique event vehicles. I don’t even see Tigers that often
I am a little torn on paper. We already have experiments and prototypes but most of them were at least physically built so they were “real”. On the other hand if we already have prototypes then paper isn’t that much different so why not
One thing is for sure, the Japanese panzers were real, they just couldn’t be shipped to Japan
So where do we draw the line? There is photo evidence of americans using captured tiger 2. Does this mean that americans should get event tiger 2?
Soviets also gave americans t34 for testing. Unlike japanese panzers this vehicle actually arrived and was tested in Aberdeen proving grounds. Should americans get premium t34/76?
Britain also recieved their t34 and a kv 1 that still exists in Bovington tank museum
Here is also a picture of marines with their captured type 97 chi ha kai in Saipan 1944
On one hand everybody captured whatever they could from each other, but the issue is do we go on a case by case basis of there is legitimate evidence of use; or do we say why not just give America a captured Maus or each faction gets each other’s arsenal.
That’s why I’m a little apprehensive on capture content.
At least for Germany it’s easy because they should receive the arsenal of any country they absorbed, so Austria, Belgium, France, Norway, etc.
Also modified stuff, like Germany modified captured T-34 and KVs with Panzer 3 cupolas so I can accept that
Yes I would accept that.
I think official channels are easy. So Russia sent the Allies some stuff, the Allies sent Russia a lot of stuff, Germany did send Japan some stuff, Japan legally owned some stuff
Seeing as they have a tank shortage I say yeah, it was purchased alongside the tiger. If the tiger can make it in game so can this, it’s not like we’re giving the most iconic equipment to them or a large amount of it.
I can accept adding the Panzer III or Panzer IV. After all, Japan had blueprints for imitation aircraft similar to the Me 262, and those tanks were cheap and easy to transport. But are they serious about adding the Panther D? I recall it was first deployed at the Battle of Kursk and suffered heavy losses right away.
Besides, repeated vehicles would make the gameplay tedious. Currently, giving captured Panzer IIIs to the Soviets makes far more sense than adding them to Japan’s roster. Japan will keep facing a growing shortage of usable vehicles in future updates, and they may even turn some high-tier squad tanks into TT variants. At the very least, new maps should be released, possibly themed around battles on Japan’s home islands as a reasonable justification.
Definitely think they need more tanks for Japan, as well as aircraft. I do second that they need another campaign for Japan, with an update centered exclusively around them. If we got at least four pieces of equipment in one update for Japan that would be massive. I’m not saying Japan needs to be the only one to get content during said update, they just need more than one item at a time. The same can be said for any faction honestly.
Getting something like a panzer III as a event tank won’t break the game or make it as stale considering if it was a limited run 1 time only event there wouldn’t be a whole lot of people with the tank. We saw the same thing in prior events, you’d have a handful of people spread across the entire player base that have it play with it for a couple matches and then permanently store it away because they have better squads and vehicle’s that they want to use.
Other factions still have plenty of tanks that can be added as event or premium. Japan did not have that much tank left. They need to reserve Japan made tank as tech tree addition for the future update.
Please no, lets keep a little faction originality in the game, its bad enough the small arms are beginning to blend together now, lets not also do that to the tanks.
Unless it was used by said nation and not just for testing, I dont think the nation should be able to get it, as for captured vehicles, I think we need to set a rule that it has to have been modified by the captors. This way we can still see representation of Lend Lease and Captured vehicles while also not completely ruining the atheistic.
In fact, if think about it, Japan’s BR4 tanks are not good.
This is because the performance of 75mm cannons is not good compared to BR4.
It can’t penetrate the front of Jumbo, and IS-1 is not easy either.
But enemy tank can easily penetrate Chi-Ri.
I’ve done a lot of search on Japanese tanks,
In the end, the only thing that can come out of BR4 is Ka-To with 105mm guns. (The performance of the cannon is the same as that of Ho-Ri, but it’s an open top on a fixed main cannon and the armor are terrible.)
So I think it would be good to have Panther added to BR4 as an TT or event inevitably.
