Increasing the Size of the Riflemen Squads to Historical Sizes

The Riflemen squad represent the standard issue infantry. They were the core of every country’s armed forces. I think the size of the Riflemen squad should be increased based on each country. Increasing the size of Riflemen would make this game a bit more faithful to history and better portray each country’s standard infantry; and buff the Riflemen squad so they are even more viable. Riflemen were the literal backbone of all countries. These numbers are based on the official organization standards on paper. They are the maximum amount of soldiers each country had in total, although over the course of the war they did fluctuate. This is a squad based shooter, so our squads could be a bit more historical and be their true size

The US Rifle squad would be increased to 12.
The UK Rifle squad, which should be added to the RT so Britain is a true and viable subfaction, would have 10.
The Soviet Rifle squad would be increased to 11.
The German Rifle squad would be increased to 10.
The Japanese Rifle squad would be increased to 15.

Italy is a special case. At the start of the war the standard Italian infantry squad had 18 soldiers! In 1941 this number increased to 20! That’s right 20! So first off Italy should receive a Riflemen squad in the RT so they can be fleshed out as a subfaction…and yes this squad would have 20 soldiers. Now if 20 is too much of a deal breaker for you and you don’t want Italy to feel special we can compromise. In 1942 Italy reorganized and reduced their standard infantry squad to 15, so 15 is as low as I’ll go for Italy!

I’m partial to a 10th man for every rifle squad (with, preferably, a accompanying 4th specialist slot, actually more interested in the 4th specialist than the 10th memeber).

Not sure about this, though…

The humble grayzoning Sherman 105 watching you spawn your 15 man squad on an apc that was shittily placed out in the open by your smooth brained teammate:

That same 15 man rifle squad looking at some poor engineers with a third of that number

I also believe select-fire rifles should be moved to Assault

I also think other squads could receive increases based on their history, but I thought it’s easier to start with Riflemen since they’re the standard infantry unit

Also there are other intersecting ideas that would evolve the meta. For example, I’ve suggested giving Engineers smgs.

Also Riflemen are for infantry for attacking and defending, Engineers are for building and support. Both should be doing their jobs. Every squad should focus on their intended roles.

So you’d like to take away auto rifles for rifleman but want smgs for engi? What kind of crap is this? Now mind you i’m not even against this as i get the idea you might want to encourage their usage more, their effectiveness or whatever it may be but where do you draw the line?

Simple case of not wanting something because it goes against your interests… giving smgs to engis is arguably worse you can have 6 man smg squad in your favorite place low tier… so let’s see you want to make auto spam worse in low tier but less effective in high tier wtf?

Please keep your hands off.

It’s a complex mess of ideas and steps of evolving the meta. Of coarse individually they seem scary but together, if they were all implemented there would be harmony. But it’s little by little

Obviously not every idea needs to be implemented all at once. We could remove AR from Riflemen and give them to Assault and all squads would remain at their current sizes for the foreseeable future. Then we can take it from there, little by little

I say they should increase bolt-action and semi-auto potency because Riflemen should be excelling at range before smg armed troops can even get close while smgs should be worthless at range. Bots especially should be more competent

But maps and objectives are so small and close that you can practically snipe with smgs

To be honest, the size of the squad doesn’t seem to matter as 70% of your BOTS will commit suicide anyway, so whether five man or twelve, you’re only playing with a couple soldiers from every squad.

unless you are locked in cqc on the gogol street threatre, kroll opera house, american embassy and Lehrter Barnhoff.

While it is true that combat unit deployments during the early stages of WWII history were indeed structured that way, have you considered the game’s performance optimization? Aren’t you worried that if you pack too many soldiers into a standard infantry squad, you’ll end up maxing out the memory and causing the computer to freeze up completely?

The more lives the better!

I would say that how could this game be running on fumes and held together by strings that a few more soldiers would tear everything apart, but knowing this game I wouldn’t be surprised

I have thought about performance (in general and not related to adding more soldiers). I’ve thought they could remove all the tank carcasses laying around the map because maybe they take up space and if every space counts. Less is more. That way the only tank carcasses would be vehicles lost during the battle
