I’d like to propose an adjustment to the matchmaking system:
Players who choose the random faction option should only be matched with others who also select random.
This change could bring a couple of key benefits:
Fairness – Everyone in the match would be equally committed to playing a random faction, rather than facing opponents who deliberately pick stronger or more favorable factions.
Balance – It would help ease the current issue of faction imbalance, since random players wouldn’t be used to fill gaps against stacked or dominant faction choices.
We can provide such an option: “Only match players who also come from a random faction” — leave the choice to the players, and the people will give the answer.
Giving the players the option to opt out of having to play against stacks would be a major upgrade in the matchmaking IMOP. I only play solo, and I think my games would be more fun if I am only playing against other solo players. The games are never going to be competitive when you have one side of disorganized solo players against stacks of organized players who are communicating. I am not opposed to groups, I just think solo players should have the choice to not have to confront them.
For months I’ve been playing random faction whenever I play. It gives me variety of fronts, thus less burnout from playing, paired with the fact that I may end up with a good team, like the type that fight hard and to the end despite being outnumbered. As I usually end up filling the spot in teams with low numbers, who happen to be actually good players, in some instances. For example. I see this a lot in Japan and US/Allies lately. Japan is the faction I get to be called for duty at random by the queue like 3 out of 5 matches that I play.
