Improve mortar squadrons a bit

they must be nerfed so no one uses them and wastes time shooting at nothing

not the cone, the size of the mortar, my idea is a larger mortar, with less rate of fire, a little more ammunition, and space to install one.

i won’t argue back and forth,

although, i can’t see anything of good coming from it.

it’s just going to be a downside as you have to waste more time to place it / install it / move it around.

more ammunitions you can always place an engy and refill it, will drain the whole ammo box to counter measure. not everyone likes getting pounded left and right for the whole match ( like it used to happen, and the reason why mortars got nerfed in the first place ).

currently, i like them where they are which if you don’t kill, they still " shock " and suppress enemy infantry.

perhaps could be a bit faster when landing down, but i can see complainings comings and therefore the current mortar is more than enough in my personal opinion ( and everyone else as far as i can see )

Just max them and swap out for Infantry, and use them in squads if you choose right path, don’t flame, :stuck_out_tongue:

Current mortars are imho in their best state in terms of balance.

Ammunition is limited, but boosted greatly by 2 engineer slots, mortars are not the most accurate, but still deadly, they are support weapon that can be effective in two supporting scenarios.

  1. With a team that responds with markings on the messages such as “mark for mortar support”, “mortar ready, waiting for marks” turns mortarmen in great advantage even in the maps where caps are not open top. (Just be patient and don´t be shy to communicate, sometimes it is not paying off, sometimes it does pay off greatly both for you and your team)
  2. Open top caps will be your reign, you are the one buying crapload of time to your team while racking the kills and breaking resistance on cap.

It is an excellent support weapon… and just like every support class in Enlisted… you can´t count on being rewarded every time.
Mortars are currently doing their job just fine.

Also, I would like to note, that it is true, that leveling up mortarmen from level 1 is painful as hell. No sarcasm here, leveling up mortarmen is pain in the ass, I give you that.
However, here is small “tutorial” (if you will) how to make your walk through the inferno a bit less painful:

  1. If you happen to have a friend, you can ask him to build ammo for you, which 1. gives him engineer points, 2. gives you 30 rounds (total 40 or more) and of course, you have somebody reliable in the actual fighting area who can mark stuff for you. That makes things a lot easier.

  2. If you do not have such a friend, you can pick squad with your engineer, build bunch of crates away from actual fighting zone and after you die, you can use those crates with your mortarman. Again… you have 40 rounds at your disposal. Of course, if you got a friend, you can also combine it with him/her and gain 70 rounds total (or more if he is willing to stay near you).

  3. Also when leveling up mortar squad, you need to aim for getting 1st. engineer slot to replace a trooper (so no more additional slots are needed…by picking up squad size first, you are only going to shoot your own legs… with a sturmpistole). That is your top priority.

  4. After having secured that, you will gain independence on help of someone else and can aim for second mortarman, second engineer (not necessarily in this pattern, choose your priority of the previous two choices), whatever you please.

  5. And of course, if you know where enemies probably are, but you don´t know how far is it, you can open map, release the cursor and create mark of your own. (That would measure the distance for you.)

Yes, it is a long wall of text, I´m honestly sorry, but I hope it will help.

I think mortar squads are fine you just have to have good gamesense if you aren’t mortaring a point

mortar kills should get bigger exp gain since its way harder to kill with them now.

I wouldn´t say harder, but given how extremely hard is it to level up squads such as mortars, trooper II etc. due to the high exp requirements per level, a bit higher exp reward wouldn´t hurt.
Also successful mortarmen have secured bonus in post battle results… since there aren´t so many mortarmen on the battlefields, especially successful ones.

I don’t like mortars i wouldn’t mind of they were removed from the game, in enlisted the map is to small and 90% of the time the mortar is gonna target the spawn killing 3 of your soldiers and you can do nothing.

I don’t see a practical use for this weapon that isn’t bombard the spawn point.

I use them for bombing the Cap points (invasion attack/defense), of course it depends on the map, in some maps they are almost useless, in others (e.g. Fortified District) they are very strong. Bombing the spawn points looks lame to me… and also killing enemies in cap point gives a lot of XP. So I had no problem leveling the mortar squad once I got the first engineer. Now I use it for leveling new soldiers (rifleman, assaulter, engineer, and mortar men of course). So, I don’t think a buff is needed. And I would not regret much if it is deleted (it’s a bit boring).

Advice to all engineers: if you hear the THUMP…THUMP of your mortarmen in your vicinity, please build for them an ammo box, it’s your daily good action , it’s just a few seconds and gives you some XP.

Imo mortars could be more usefull if they also get smoke shells to help their allies just like how they gave arty smoke, it would also make sense for mortars or hell if possible give them white phosperous shells which makes it so you can keep enemies away from places with a cloud of damaging smoke.
And to ensure that people don’t start complaining about how the smoke and phosperous look the same, the phosperous should be bonewhite and not the greyish white that regular smoke should have

Mortars are in a great place right now. Not OP but not useless.
Only thing I would change is aiming. Add aim indicator on the minimap, like it was in CAT or like in BF series. What we have now is unnecesarry complicated.
Also camping in a grey zone should be dealth with but it’s a problem of bad grey zone design, not a peoblem of mortars.
And smoke rounds would be nice.

Like anyone would use smoke though. We need xps for smoke for this feature.

Idiots gona be idiots. But players that know what they are doing, might use it.
I for example have at least one smoke grenade in a squad and I often use smoke artylery in tunesia.

Still I think using smokes should be rewarded.

It should but it’s undoable imo. How would you give points for that and avoid meaningless spam at the same time?

Idk. I dont think it would be worse than HE arty and HE mortar spam.

Yep! Smoke or Willie Pete would be a great addition.

Mortarmen might have a fixed amount of smoke rounds in addition to the 10 normal HE rounds. Perhaps 10+2 or 10+1 to avoid excessive smoke spam.
