Hello, I would like to suggest improving the AI using ATRs, in specific my experience with the Boys rifle. The squad controlled by AI will usually always swap to this gun. Despite being effective as a heavy sniper rifle, there are some situations in where I don’t want my squad to use this AT gun.
For example, close quarters engagements require fast response and high volume of fire, yet they will use the Boys. I’ve seen them miss the shot and then getting killed by another bot. Just because they exaggeratedly use the Boys for any combat situation. I had them equipped with semi-auto M1 Carbines to test their effectiveness yet they kept using the Boys, which became somewhat vexing since i cannot take the gun away from their inventory. Any primary gun I equip with will be equally useless since they don’t use it regularly.
I am not sure if they even fire with the Boys to the actual intended targets; the armoured cars or tanks. In which i think they should now equip the boys and fire at it - At least targeting tracks or engine.
They always use gun with biggest damage, for example if you equip someone with Semi-auto and Bolt-Action rifles, they will always use bolt-action as it has more damage. Thats why AI always use AT rifles instead of normal gun they have.
I don’t think that is the case. In my assaults, they are equipped with Stens and shotgun as secondary weapon, yet they will rarely swap to shotgun. Not even for the ‘up-close and personal’ engagements.
And if that were in fact correct, I would say is a bit flawed in cases like the Boys rifle.
Maybe a squad command for changing guns can be added?
Unfortunately yes, well, being righteous about the facts. I would say 95% of the times they will use AT as a regular rifle, instead of their most adequate primary gun.
This was my squad before combat, all of them are equipped with M1 carbines and correctly handling them. With a hint of roleplay I gave them carbines becuase I wanted to lighten their equipment and improve their mid-close range effectiveness.
This is my squad after getting combat. We got ambushed and all of them swapped to the Boys ATR. I downed one enemy with the carbine and they got a kill and the assist for me. I retreated and they died to enemy fire. The single soldier remaining shows why they did so poor in this situation; they were using the Boys instead of their carbines.
With shotguns, they factor in the damage dropoff into the calculation, so they will use secondaries or pistols if you give it the shotgun as its primary weapon.
