Important aspects for a future planet side 2-like game mode

hy guy how are you? I noticed that users are again spamming ideas for a planet side 2-like mode and I would like to post some cool aspects to make it OK and not an armored train second fail

  1. the number of squads in the field must be 30 with 10 slots reserved for vehicles (the maps are large)

  2. missions must have random objectives combined with fixed ones (boredom comes the same without variety)

  3. coordination is essential on a vast battlefield so I would propose to force 4-player squads (whether you like it or not)

  4. some scripts or certain handicaps are necessary in certain situations of the battle to guarantee a correct simulation (no tanks for the Americans if they do not conquer the beach only planes instead the Germans have no planes)

  5. the achieved objectives must be part of the gameplay (aka a train station conquered is a new spawn for tanks for example)

  6. natural needs and unexpected events are part of life, no punishment on experience gained if the player leaves the game (he simply gets what he has earned so far fair and square)

  1. servers were lagging into oblivion when someone created custom squad game with more than 20 players

i would love larger battles, but i doubt devs will sacrifice consoles for some gamemode that wont bring that dough

gaijin uses (at least in war thunder) third-party servers plus some amazon servers for payments, unless you buy new ones the lag doesn’t disappear

This could be engine limitation, or downgrade like some pre-beta changes to make it work on consoles. Then even better servers won’t help

no it’s not the engine’s fault, in this case otherwise with the latest updates that made it heavier it should have had problems with every game, it’s the servers that struggle with user traffic at certain times when they fill up, for example except for some time in the evening I have never seen the servers give problems, so I do not think that increasing the number of players per game can give problems, on the contrary it improves the situation because there are fewer instances to be managed simultaneously by the servers

I mean they could’ve had some limits on custom games, there weren’t gonna be any less custom servers as this was first day they launched and people started to farm bots in solo servers, you couldn’t even create new ones after two hours.
Normal serverl lags aren’t like the shitshow that was 40 people with squads, so like 160 bots, maybe 200 sometimes because you couldn’t even walk, on one game.
You would run 2m ahead, just to be lagged back 3m behind. Over and over again. Every second You try to do someting, time travels back and You do it again. It was like that for every player, new ones joined and were asking what is happening. Top players that had nice score from before server was overcrowded couldn’t even kill anymore. Every plane was crashing. Only bots could kill anything, or one of granades thrown by 40 people exploded somewhere.

Man it was fun for like 10 seconds, even if it would not lag maps are way to small.
I really doubt consoles could hanlde that. And i don’t want this game to look like minecraft.

this is because each player creates his own room and increases the number of games that the servers have to manage, and that sends them into overwork and they start to slow down, in the days preceding the nerf of the costum match enlisted it was unplayable for this reason after the nerf the situation is back to normal, no matter how many players and bots there are in a single session the game will always work as long as the servers are not overloaded

Normal games worked fine.
Solo payers farming bots were fine no major lags.
20 players squad lobby worked fine.

Bugged 50 lone figher lobby that turned in squads, allowing more people to play, were unplayable, lags every second. I think i can see the issue better because i experienced it

I respect your opinion but if I do not experience or see the problem, I remain of the opinion that the number of players is not the problem

I love how this a scapegoat for the game not being able to get larger, I know people who play on pc that lag more than console.

I mean sure if they only want people with top end pcs to play then say goodbye to the majority of players including pc players.

It’s easy to see this game has 8gb ram minimum specs on pc, this is how much ram ps4 has.
You could buy more for pc, but propably most parts would need upgrade too, still it’s possible.
If game is on console, there is now way to get more ram there, can’t get any moretflops from grapic card or overclock cpu.

They are the baseline for games for years, it’s not a scapegoat lol, just how gaming industry operates, as it’s more profitable to have Your game on consles.
Now beacause we have crossplay, we all have to be on same playing field, guess who is the limiting factor.

On pc You have another luxury of trying to run game on below minimus specs sometimes, but it’s players responsibility and always was to have specs to run games they want to play.
On consoles it’s on game devs to make games run on well with limited resurces.

They are included already

You do know planetside 2 on ps4 still has hefty player caps, in its hey day it could take like 400 per continent

You do know planetside 2 was made with huge maps and battlefields in mind? It’s like main selling of this point, not it’s graphics, not ww2 detailed maps, and i don’t remember digging holes in maps.

That game was meant to be as big as possible, here we have bunch of bots with lerning AI running around and shooting planes out of the sky. There is also vehicles with accurate physics simulation which take up a lot of cumputing power.

Maybe if this game comes out, bugs are polished and it’s overall better optimized it could run 20v20 battles.
For now there is a reason why Lone Fighter lobbies can have 50 players, while squads only 20.

as archeology.

Funny thing, it’s that after 3 months of this post, at 2022 May 25, the developers post their news about the editor.

And I started working on the first version of BigActionMod on June 4, 2022. its almost 1 year

Now it has become popular among some players as a 20+vs20+ squads mode large-scale map task. And this mod is especially popular with console gamers as well.

In particular, their game engine fully supports this. Just be aware of the growing memory of in-game controls, such as wreckage recycling, to keep the game smooth and fairly stable.

I basically agree with everything the OP said. And the upper limit should be at least 20vs20 (squads)
