Chi nu is br 2 material especially now that Japan is expanding to fight Russia. With this one of the primary arguments against apcbc for America, Japan’s weak tanks, is gone at every br except br1. Br 2 would have chi nu, br 3 chi nu2, br 4 chi ri, and br 5 ho ri.

Has the same armor as ho i. Slower reload. And the pen isn’t actually as good as it seems since it uses uncapped aphe. It struggles against Sherman’s and the he is standard for br 2.

The grant and Lee have quicker reloads, more survivability, and better versatility.

Chi-Nu is fine at BR III
Add Toku Kou APHE (6.64kg at 683m/s)
Fix AP round mechanics (needs to be resolved in WT), then the Chi-Nu will reliably penetrate M4 Sherman hull at 600m and also not suffer from low TNT on its HE shell the way Chi-Nu II does

its a Panzer IV F.2 once its fixed which is BR III, tbh better than Panzer IV F.2 cuz with CHi-Nu’s HE shell can have up to 900g tnt equivalent which surpasses 660g on 75mm for sherman. its on par with german 88mm HE
Pz4 f2 is one of the worst br 3 tanks and it still at least has better armor a coax machine gun and much better pen.

Cuz credit where credit is due you were the one who convinced me chi nu is br 2 material.
If War Thunder hasn’t “fixed” it then chances are it’s never gonna happen in Enlisted either. Also it has around 800g of explosive filler in it’s HE so not quite 88mm level, plus fragmentation is more important in Enlisted and the 75mm M3 and 75mm Type 3 have about the same fragmentation.
Also no the Chi-Nu is not the equivalent of the Panzer IV F2, that would be the Chi-Nu 2 which is now BR3 thank god. The coaxial MG-34 is worth more than both the Type 97s on the Chi-Nu, the 75mm KwK40 L43 has more than enough pen to go through tanks at its BR and in uptiers, and it has smoke grenades.
The Chi-Nu is closer to the Panzer III J1, or the Panzer III L if they ever add it but I guess the Panzer III M for now. In terms of HE it’s still beat out by the Ho-I, not to mention that the Ho-I’s HEAT can go through the front plate of Shermans much more reliably, especially at range.
Panzer IV F.2 in real life could pen sherman up to like 750m
Chi-Nu could up to 600m with Toku Kou APHE
So yes the gun penetration in real life is comparable
the 75mm HE on Chi-Nu is superior
