I was recently jotting down ideas for unique ways to have a Japanese faction and I would like everyone elses ideas and opinions.
I’m trying to make it in a way that stays historical so no prototypes or one-offs; I’d like to make the Japanese actually unique and feel different than any other faction!
Some of my balance thoughts:
Hidden rallies-no sounds and very hard to see
Banzai charge-full speed bayonet attacks where no stamina is lost and can melee while sprinting
Unique perks- Even faster bolt action cycling, flame resistance, fast trap placement
Camouflage
Booby traps
Larger rifleman squads (12 instead of 9)
Japanese “knee” mortar with mortar men in each squad (knee mortars are far smaller than standard mortars)
Snipers can climb trees
Fortified and camouflaged machine gun nests
Bayonets for most of the machine guns (they actually did that)
If the battle would be Okinawa or Iwo Jima we could give the japanese no gray zone. They have miles of underground tunnels that if you know well you can always flank around the Americans. And as an American clearing out these underground strongholds would be both scary and dangerous.
Maybe a new class, an officer, where if he whistles a massive banzai charge will commence. Every bot will charge the enemy lines disregarding the player orders, and the player would have a pop up on the screen that a banzai charge is tanking place and that he should join it.
Powerful melee like swords.
Make their defensive positions like bunkers EXTREMELY hard to clear, meaning there is only 1 entrance in, meaning the roof will be intact. (And there wont be one entrance! Remember those underground strongholds? they will connect to every objective meaning the japanese can avoid all artillery, and tank fire if they move through the underground.)
Would be really fun. Going to build rally point to flank enemies but someone else already ordered my engineer to do banzai charge and he got killed by enemy machine gunner
Exactly my thought. They get 12 instead of 9. This game is perfect for that idea because of all the bots we have making a banzai charge actually large instead of just a couple you get 12 people sprinting at you screaming
Of all the above suggestions, peculiar maps design and larger squads are the only ones I can reasonably imagine being applied.
For gameplay purposes, Banzai charges must NOT interfere with other players’ bots. This means, either only one squad charges, or… Or else such charges are considered kinda like arty strikes. Some sort of “power attack” that can be called in at some point(s) by a specific class (Officer?) if certain conditions are met; just, instead of raining shells, it spawns a wave of bots that charge the target location.
