I understand that we need to unlock every single item in a respective research line to progress to the next weapon. But now we need to purchase all those individuals weapons, heavy equipment, tanks and planes as well? Every single one of them? This feels quite lame. I hope this is not the case.

It’s pretty inexpensive to purchase one.

It is when you don’t have premium and you need to upgrade other weapons as well which is very expensive to begin with.
