Why would you waste an event sword on Japan? They literally are able to buy swords. I always grab swords when I can so I can have a sweet sword collection on all my engineers, this time I might be forced to choose the gun instead.
I know there has to be at least 2 more different swords. One of my guys has some kind of meat clever (Non premium squad not armed with swords).
At least it’s a sword pistol not a katana which is literally the same as a shun gunto.

Makes me wonder if the bottom one has an additional 6-9" reach. That is a nodachi handle.
I keep my melee skills “sharp” playing Japan one so its an easy transition to all my other nations engineers because everyone is carrying a sword. 3-4 years of swords. Unless its BR 5 or really cool I will always take the sword. It has a challenge to it. 12/18 kills were a sword wielding Russian Cossack!
the sword pistole is trash, because i had it when it used to be a old battlepass weapon.
Still better than a katana IMO because it’s not functionally the same as the free swords. The Nambu pistol itself has a low rof which stinks I prefer the Type 1 pistol.
Honestly I do not see the point. A pistol IRL would be the stupidest shit ever. What is that a 10lb pistol? A sword rifle makes sense and they have that in the form of a bayonet. Its like holding a pistol with a sword on top of. That is not how pistols work. Its more like a blade with a little gun on the end of it to club people with if you had the right kind of gloves.

I wouldn’t and I think most people wouldn’t want a katana over a sword pistol, aside from the appearance as far as I know they are functionally the same. If I’m doing lots of tasks I’m not spending it on a katana when the shin gunto type 95 (apologizes I spelt it wrong initially) is 200 silver. The sword pistol gets 150 sprint factor now which is good. At least for the novelty this one might be worth it whereas a katana is a dead option as far as I’m concerned.
If you can run at 150 with a pistol firing that can also switch to a melee weapon quicker than the button it might be niche useful. I will have to test it out. But I agree that 200silver sword is a deal. The event one just has a nodashi handle and I am curious if its slightly longer.
That at least makes more sense the blade is the same direction as the barrel.
Probably better to go for the SMG or MG with this one.
The Hotchkiss is formidable. So too is the Thompson.

BR1 and 5 any day of the week. I play got Japan down to a fine art between those two BR’s ones good ole fashion samurai Jack action, the other is how many 2x machine can 3 x squads with 3 machine gunners reap on people. The guns tend to be limited to a BR, engineers need that speed. The other goal is a sword for every engineer of every nation. Then one for the radio guy. Melee is like sniping it is a skill that gets rusty but easy to get back on the bike. The old Hi Go Lo line up.
I got 2 Things SMGs and swords. Sometimes you might be lucky and I feel sporting so I use the sword :). It is my aux practice BR pistols, melee, bolt action.
