I currently run a low level MG squad
3 MG gunners with 2 star M1918A1s
1 engineer
They usually get wiped by FG 42 across the map, and MG 42 about 10-20 sec into their lifetime
the best way to play with a m1918a1 squad is to play axis with fg42 and pick them from the ground. easy!
now for real your problem is not on the gun or the squad dude…

You flank the bunkers first.
Go on customs and find out all the bunker enterances
Once you get into the bunker, find the firing hole, that is protecting the door and stay there.
That is a really good way to cal bunker objectives

Then i would advice you to approach the battlefield from cover to cover and flank like said above

All I can say.
Don’t treat the BAR like a light machine gun, because it isn’t.
It’s an Automatic Rifle. It can’t and won’t be able to trade shots with any German LMG except the Breda.
It’s mentioned above, use it aggressively, stay up on the objective and then defend it when you’ve taken it.
The A2 is even better with its slow fire that you can use to shoot on the advance towards the objective.
The BAR is really good when you get aggressive with it.
