But why are updates slower than before the merge? What is DF doing?

It normally takes one to two months to update a game.
Rather, the frequency of game updates up to now has been unusual.
First Catholic Christmas, then New Year, then Orhodox Christmas, then Russian “Old Calendar New Year” just happened yesterday.

Taking a break or working on pershing and japan BR 5 if they dont and bug hunting would be my guess.
But rushing the devs for an update was never a good idea if you want a functional product that runs properly.
Edit: 1 month since last major update isnt that bad. Considering the period before the merge or the rushing in of the so much loved ultra heavy tanks mid summer XD
