Yes, the HE can devastate infantry.
HE does a number on the Pumas too. That commander though… he’s not long for this world and your MG won’t last long.
Yeah he basically has a death wish.
Against infantry, it is stronger than Sherman
Against tanks, it’s OK but nothing special
It’s not a head to head type tank. Both frontal engaging to P IV, P IV wins. But if you can flank and catch side or rear armor, it does huge damage on P IV especially in close range.

Yes, its an upgrade. The HE ammo can destroy light targets (infantry and Pumas) and the HEAT ammo absolutely wrecks Panzers. That’s something the Sherman has trouble doing.
IMO having all tanks unlocked, the m8 is the best for both infantry and tanks (as long as you keep distance) on d-day it can wreck the enemy lines and I found shooting a heat round at any point of the enemy tanks that wasn’t the front would paralyze or instantly kill them. its also the only tank that i decided to fully upgrade. But i would say it is all to do with play style as i use the jumbo Sherman exclusively now and that does wonders for close range against infantry and can take alot of damage which helps with pushing positions and distracting the enemy and helping to get your team forward.
