Historical Notes: Correct Ranks, visible on uniforms

In Enlisted, we have soldiers from rank I to V.

You might be surprised now, but soldiers have ranks in real life, too…

Why can`t they have ranks like Schütze, Oberschütze, Gefreiter, Obergefreiter, Stabsgefreiter (there was no “Hauptgefreiter” in the Wehrmacht)? Or better Unteroffizier instead of Stabsgefreiter?

And all armies so far in this game, have rank insignia on their uniforms in real life. Why not in the game?

Oh, short note: The Volkssturm units have their own ranks - Volkssturm-Mann, Gruppenführer, Zugführer, Kompanieführer and Bataillonsführer (i.e. Soldier, Squad-, Platoon-, Company- and Battalionleader).
In the Berlin Campaign, the “1. Volkssturmkompanie” has correct Volkssturm rank insignia…but those soldiers are ALL platoon leaders…

I wish :pensive:. +1

I’m still hoping silently they will introduce medals at some point. Some of my boys deserve them

Not strictly true, the Soviets didn’t have proper insignia until 1943. You know, extreme leftist views, and “how can one man be commanding another, that’s inequality”, and all that. In 1943 Stalin realized this was a bad idea, so they brought them back.
But yeah, I am all for it, +

Exept, Americans and Russians do not have a similar structure.

Russians have like, 2 enlistement ranks for soldiers,
While the Americans roughly 3/4.

Not the same as the Germans.

Russians also have 4:

  • Private (Рядовой [Ryadovoy])
  • Efreitor (Ефрейтор [Yefreitor])
  • Sergeant (Сержант [Serzhant])
  • Sergeant Major (Старший сержант [Starshiy Serzhant])

I think some of the ranks could be omitted as well.

This has been mentioned before,

The issue is that if you have a whole squad of 5* troops, are they all going to be SGTs (for example)?
Because that would arguably be worse than no ranks.

Then you have the issue of specific troopers, like Machine gunners, would usually be a sgt within the Wehrmacht. So, would it be done as position 1 in the squad is the commander e.t.c>?

It would be nice to see this level of detail, but i doubt we will see anything soon

Well, sometimes “Sergeant” is translated with “Unteroffizier”, sometimes with “Feldwebel”. An Unteroffizier is the lowest NCO rank in all german armies, and is usually a squad leader, tank commander or something alike. A Feldwebel would be a platoon leader. Anyway, no german Unteroffizier or Feldwebel was ever a regular MG gunner. Or sniper.

But I agree, a spuad with more than one Sergeant/Unteroffizier/what-ever-NCO would be some kind of strange. So the highest rank might be Stabsgefreiter, and all are enlisted men.

But those squads are no realistic squads, its a consession on playability. There were no squads with more than two MG gunners, more than one Radio Operator etc.

I can live with this, for me this sort of squads and ranks, even if it means there would be some more higher ranks in a squad, would be ok for me.

But it ist no use to make endless discussions on it. We make suggestions, and the developer have to decide if and how those ideas will find their way into the game.
