Historical Accuracy in Normandy is lacking

I am loving the game and most of the game is pretty good. Some of the balance issues seem to be from a lack of Historical accuracy in vehicles and weapons. The most annoying factor for me is aircraft bomb spam but it’s an annoyance that can be overcome through good aggressive pushing. And using the fighter’s to intercept. Usually shoot one down and the skies become friendly. The second problem is the balance with infantry and tanks. The PIAT is good and can take out the German Armour easily and laying AT mines around objectives helps from an allied point of view. The Germans get a pistol AT launcher and no more than a panzer 4 H model. The ammunition is the APCBC which is not the best round but adequate on all but a Jumbo frontally and that’s part of the problem if it had the APCR it may stand a chance at 100 M range. . The Jumbo was not landed until September so it did not exist in the Normandy campaign as such. A wide range a vehicles are available for use on both sides and the Germans had Panthers, a few Tiger 11 and some tiger I. The Allies had Churchills (the AVRE with petard mortar would make an interesting vehicle choice. Flamethrower Churchills, Cromwells, Sherman Firefly and of course the Sherman 76mm gun tanks. The supply of certain infantry weapons is peculiar with overly effective FG-42 sniper rifles and under effective American sniper rifles. All in all the game is fun however the tanks while awesome seem to be a serious imbalance. I had a game that had both Allied players take Jumbo’s and they literally controlled the game with my team not managing to even get the first position. Any time you killed a single jumbo the other would kill you and by the time I returned to spawn etc I ended up trying to kill tanks with explosive packs as the Sturmpistol is useless. 80mm of pen is what is claimed but even from the side it struggles to kill a Sherman. The Panzerfaust would be a better replacement and if only 1 is carried per AT soldier it would be reasonable. I would also have the 30 model due to it being the one deployed. The Allies had so many good choices for Normandy the use of vehicles that did not serve at the time is disappointing.

10 out of 10 for noting what has been a bone of contention since the game came out

learn it … live it … love it

Thanks for pointing out that being dyslexic and having a learning difficulty makes my comments irrelevant.

I don’t play Normandy, I play Berlin. But I guess this confirms the fears I had about Normandy being historically wrong in too many areas—at least for me. I support the panzerfaust 30. There should also be the panzerwurfmine grenade as it was used luftwaffle ground troops which was very active in Normandy.

Honestly, I think the M1 Grand and particularly Thompson should be some of the first weapons unlocked on Normandy as they were the standard issue or most prevalent weapons seen in d day. Yes this would give the Americans a serious starter edge but not every campaign should be symmetrically balanced because that is repetitive.

I think devs should take some inspiration from the squads system from ww1 game Verdun which each squad had truely unique abilities like special artillery (Stosstruppen can call in mustard gas) and this may add many more dynamics in each faction while maintains historical authenticity. This may be implemented by say, Wespe artillery or Nebelwerfer rocket artillery, American howitzers, etc.
