So there are 2 problems with the high altitude of the resupply points and both of them encourage suicide bombing:
Bigger planes tend to climb slower meaning that you have to start climbing early to reach the resupply point. This leaves you vulnerable to enemy fighter attacks and in a plane where you can’t fight back… it’s just easier and faster to crash and spawn with infantry. This is even worse when you have a black smoke trail from damage.
SPEAKING OF DAMAGE… some planes when taking light to medium damage can’t even reach the damn thing. And you’re left there, wasting your time and the team’s time trying to reach the point to rearm a lightly damaged plane (that just won’t climb any higher) while being a nice slow moving target for enemy planes. This also encourages suicide bombing as soon as you take some damage.
What was so bad with being able to rearm at any altitude? Some players with slower and less effective planes had a chance, they could fly low and avoid being instant targets.
id actually like to hear devs opinion on this and what are they trying to achieve, because if they want dogfights to happen in larger altitudes and want players to reach those heights then this is poor way of executing it
Yeah the high altitude resupply is dumb. Not sure who’s bright ides it was to change the mechanic (months ago). Some maps require aircraft to reach an altitude of around 500-600, which exposes the pilot to enemy aircraft who are searching for you.
Before the high-altitude resupply mechanic was implemented, pilots could rearm near the ground-level, thus remaining relatively hidden from the open horizon.
It’s really annoying when you’re out of ammo, and are trying to fly back to the resupply while an enemy fighter is on your ass… And because pilots are required to reach an elevation of 400-600meters, it not only kills the airspeed of the aircraft, pilots are also forced to expose themselves to a guaranteed-death.
But when we could resupply near the ground (and at a high altitude), pilots had the flexibility of both out-maneuvering an enemy pilot, and resupplying (thus being able to re-engage and have an actual dog fight).
it’s even worse when you can’t even fight back (bombers)… you get shredded instantly because you’re gunners are sleeping and your only defense of flying low is removed by the fact that you have to climb to rearm. God forbid you take some damage from an AA, MG or enemy plane and you might not even be able to reach that altitude…
because it’s a faster way of getting back into action than flying away to rearm, getting shot down, parachuting down to the ground and getting spawned far, far away from the battle with a squad that’s not optimised for assaulting.
So if you know that all of the above are bound to happen if you try to rearm then the solution is simple, spawn bomber, drop bombs, crash, get back in action with an optimised assault squad 8 seconds later near the fight, not 200m away.
Lives are tickets. Spawn, do your runs, if you get damaged beyond practicality then bail, either land in the battlefield or teleport to basic spawn, show up and put some enemies in the dirt. Let less observant people wonder when the next run is. Don’t look like an idiot who doesn’t know how to pull up. It all sounds like wins to me buddy. Plus it gives you the opportunity to stack a few more kills before an enemy player, not the ground, kills you and THEN you get your Assault Squad out
