So it’s about 13 days from Halloween, do we have any idea what the event is going to be like?
Most likely just zombies with a new twist
The “motivated” or zombies in less fancy way were first implemented in 2024 April Fools than reused for Halloween of 2024 and 2025.
Its not out of the realm of possibilities that the next Halloween event will mix the World War I theme of this year´s April Fools and the motivated in one event.
Trench warfare with zombies sounds interesting.
I’m still hoping for night maps though.
The devs actually working—now that is scary.
Now, if you want to scare people in this game, set up the event as if they had to submit their resumes.
Honestly, this upcoming Halloween event might turn out pretty bad.
Enlisted has had three Halloween events so far. The first one also marked the debut of night maps. It featured zombie tanks, dropping zombie enemies and zombie bosses. It felt like a tower-defense version of World War Z and was quite fun. The only downside was fully random weapon spawns; it got harder and harder to hold on as the match went on.
The second event was great, playing a lot like Left 4 Dead. It was still tough and required voice communication with teammates, but it was enjoyable. The main challenge was the boss firing lasers across a 180-degree arc. Character abilities were well-designed, and there was huge room to expand and polish the mode. Looting random weapons after beating the mission felt really rewarding.
But the third one was a total disaster. Not only was the map roster heavily cut down, enemy spawn rates were cranked way higher, bosses had massive health pools, and the overall difficulty spiked sharply. Some defense points were extremely cramped. There is a massive contradiction with the characters: lore-wise they are legendary, hand-picked elites almost like superhumans, yet their base stats are terrible with poor reload speed and stamina. All unique signature abilities were removed entirely.
In Left 4 Dead, I can kite and slash zombies with melee weapons. But in this event, getting hit by zombies applies a heavy slow debuff, making it hard to react. Once your stamina runs out, you are basically dead. Even if you try to evade enemies, long-range zombies will ambush you. If you don’t take them down within three seconds, they will fire multiple shots and instantly kill you. These ranged enemies use the bolt-action AI template from the base game; once they show themselves, they aim for headshots. Getting ambushed by them drains most of your health. Also, guns looted from these enemies come with no spare magazines. Weapons can only be obtained from random crates or fixed purchases.
There are far too many enemies, ammo is scarce, and powerful gear costs a lot to get. Maps are cramped, getting hit by zombies triggers a strong slow debuff that often leads to instant death. Ranged foes aim quickly and deal high damage. The playable characters have no special skills; they are just blank slates.
The overall gameplay floor is really low and the experience is miserable, with ammo shortage being the biggest issue. Even powerful weapons obtained from crates come with very limited ammo, sometimes less than basic low-tier weapons. You have to hold a spot smaller than 10 square meters. If you run out of bullets and try to kite enemies with melee, suicide zombies burn you with white phosphorus. If you pick off enemies from range to conserve ammo, hordes of armed zombies gather in the distance and force you to clear them quickly. No matter what strategy you pick, it’s frustrating.
I’ve seen many players collect MP40s dropped by dead zombies and stockpile them just to avoid running out of ammo. It looked really sad to watch. I feel DF was unhappy that players could finish the mission too quickly, so they resorted to mindlessly spawning endless enemies to artificially extend playtime. It made the experience awful.
At that time, the invulnerable spot bug saved countless frustrated players, much like Prometheus bringing fire to humanity. Without it, at least half of players would never beat the mission. Sadly, the bug was patched later. Queueing with random teammates takes a full 30 minutes with a high chance of failure. If you lose mid-run, all that time is wasted. Few people want to spend their time like this; it’s better to just play two regular matches instead.
For rewards, most are locked behind the battle pass. Previous Halloween events mostly offered only reskinned weapons. At least the reskinned RD44 sold in the shop during the second Halloween unlocked crate rolls, which could reward Bloody Panzer IV and Bloody KV-1. There were also patched-up Sherman and M3A1 skins ported over from War Thunder’s Mad Max wasteland event. They looked really out of place and completely failed to fit the zombie theme; frankly, they looked terrible.
The devs used extreme tactics just to boost player retention. Playing it feels more draining than going to work. All unique skills for the four playable characters were scrapped. Characters written as superhuman in lore ended up as blank slates in-game, making the experience really poor.
In war thunder there is spooky decals
[Decals] Spooky Monthly Decals for October! - News - War Thunder
So maybe we get some.
This concern is not unfounded.
Even the regular WWII mode in Enlisted has already moved beyond strict realism and historical simulation. But for the last April Fools event, they dropped a 1:1 WWI rework that was just plain unpleasant.
Before launch, I thought it would be Enlisted’s take on Battlefield 1 with large-scale battles. Once I got in, it felt more like Tactical Squad 1907.
Nine out of ten of your deaths happen because of the huge map. Tanks replicated the terrible cross-country mobility of real WWI vehicles; they get stuck constantly, cannot crush trees, and you have to use the pre-placed bridges. Otherwise you’re basically trapped.
I’m not sure if it was designed to frustrate players, but enemy bots fought in full squads with really good gear.
They tried to recreate WWI trenches, yet failed to make them feel authentic. Shovels could not alter most terrain. Troops bought with points would die almost immediately, making it impossible to get your points back. An unlock-by-level system would have worked far better.
It was the worst April Fools event I’ve seen, even worse than the ones War Thunder has had. It felt like they tossed out an unfinished build just to see how players would react to this terrible experience.
Battlefield 1 nailed its WWI setting and wowed everyone. By contrast, Enlisted’s April Fools event threw away its signature large squad gameplay, and switched to point-based troop purchases. On top of the harsh point requirements at the start, the whole design came across as arrogant, poorly thought out, and ended up being a total mess.
They forced slow-paced gameplay into a fast-paced game, and the whole mode became distorted and broken.
It was just as bad as Blizzard’s Starburst Agent.
Decals are an interesting reward option, but if they only offer a small handful of limited decals, or use decals to replace some weapon rewards, it feels like a bad trade.
The decals we got last time looked kind of vague and indistinct. You can hardly show them off even after you unlock them.
Well there will be some squad or some weapons.
These look so much better than that ugly demon face decal we got from the earth shield event
Squads are still something we can hope for, but don’t expect new weapons or vehicles.
They did give a flamethrower squad in the last event, yet I suspect they were reluctant to hand out anything truly good. Back then, flamethrowers on the battlefield were barely useful, no better than a corn cob.
I’d bet the cost of one full squad that this Halloween event will just reskin existing TT weapons, market them as brand-new event weapons and toss them into loot boxes to annoy us.
When players open crates, the progress bar seems to be heading toward the Stinger, only to give you a gun identical to ones already on the tech tree. Players are then prompted to sell that duplicate weapon.
Halloween skins also keep getting worse. The skinned vehicles perform exactly the same as their standard tech-tree counterparts.
It’s just shameless cash-grabbing, plain and simple.
They are cool small rewards.
Well every time is paid so dont put your hopes up xD
There is one thing you’re wrong about and that the ww1 event was the worst april fools event. You must have forgotten about the gun game event.
I’m hoping for maybe a world war 1 theme Halloween event. But then again, there is a chance that the event will suck
Gun game was really fun and brought some old nostalgia back.
Ww1 event was also really fun and unique. Nothing wrong with “slower” game pace. It was a ww1 event after all.
The first april fools zombies was best. Beyond that the last one got for Halloween was far better than the others. Absolutely hated running full maps doing the same stupid repetitive tasks.
Just because Y’all struggled with something doesn’t mean these things weren’t fun. Challenge is fun.
A squad of a single Roosevelt or Churchill, a Hitler, a Stalin, and a Hirohito.
Capture the flag.
Infinite spawns.
With miniguns and rockets.
Team Deathmatch.
Something similar to the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Cold War, where we can extract after a certain number of waves and use the points earned to claim free rewards (hopefully not locked behind an additional battle pass).
It will be. It’s been the norm now for 2 years
if only…
if. only.
