Can someone tell me whats the advantage of having one of those gold troops that you spend with a gold troop order? are they even any better than regular troops? I have never spent a single one and so far have 9 gold troop orders just sitting in inventory unused.

nothing much.
they get the same perks as the others.
there was a rumor that newer ones got full perks, but i can’t confirm it, nor deny it.
so, for the moment, those are good for newer players to get fresh soldiers with the ability to have 5 stars by default instead of having to spend bronze on it and researches.
though, the biggest issue is that backpacks and secondaries will not be available unless you researched them in the line up / campaign based on class squad.
unfortunately, those do not come with any visual medal at the moment. so… you get a soldier with an icon essentially.

Every soldier starting with the soldiers with beards and semi unique faces begun with the maxed of the soldier type… I believe Battle Pass 5/6+.
Convenience
You bypass the squad leveling up process to 5 stars for that particular gold order soldier. Newer gold order soldiers get maximum perk points. Each perk point give extra 0.5% boost in stats relating to that category. The weapon handling perk point give 0.5% boost toward handling recoil. I can’t remember what the other two categories boost.
If your squad is maxed out then gold order soldier don’t have much advantages over the silver order soldier. One upside is that buying a gold soldier save you a lot of bronze orders to upgrade a silver soldier in the same class to 5 stars.
Nothing much, they are pretty lame as they are to be honest.
Minimum the back/2nd weapon slots should be open already on purchase to make them halfway interesting.

That is completely up to you. Personally I have all gold order vehicles which I wanted to have so I save the rest for the future. But if you have specific vehicles that you like to use a lot and you like the camo: Go for it.
