I was never a CEO of a fortune 500 company, but recently retiring after managing business half my life has given me at least some small business sense. I am not going to go into the gameplay, but just the silver/gold chests.
First off, I would shitcan the gold chests all together and keep the silver chest because it is essentially free. I would shitcan the gold chest in favor of opening a new and improved BP store. The new BP store would have weapons, tanks and planes like the old store, however I would also add soldiers, clothing and squads. Every weapon, tank and plane that the Dev’s have produced would be available there. Every piece of clothing offered in the game would be available there, and EVERY squad produced (including legacy squads) would be available there. Add to that every squad would be purchased with fully unlocked weapons. Why, because NOT nearly as many people will buy squads if they don’t like the weapons, and nearly everyone would buy if they can add the weapon of their choice. This makes the squads more customizable, and lets people use then at what ever BR level they need, not be locked into a BR level where they are over stacked with squads that sit unused and wasted.
The gold chest was implemented simply to take advantage of the player base. Sad, but it’s true. The dev’s should spend more time trying to satisfy it’s customers instead of looking for ways to take advantage of them. A satisfied customer will buy more then a pissed one.
Look, to be honest, I currently have a degree in marketing and business administration, so I have a pretty good idea of what you’re getting at. After analyzing the options and current trends, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s always a market for loot boxes in every game; you just have to use the statistics to your advantage. What do I mean by this? It’s simple. Someone within the company analyzed the data from people who buy cosmetics within Enlisted and concluded that it becomes somewhat profitable to channel some of that interest into a perceived value for an item that’s superior to consumers, who in this case, would be the players. I’m analyzing this, nothing unusual; more than half the forum knew this years ago, but I wanted to emphasize it for those who didn’t.
To avoid boring you and summarize the above, “If a company suddenly does something you don’t like, it’s because you weren’t part of the objective.” This phrase, which I use when working with clients at my consulting firm, reflects all the dark spaces that third parties (companies associated with other companies) don’t see and tend to overlook; the same applies here, but between the company and the player.
Gotta say I agree wholeheartedly with Luvs2spooge I most of what I want from enlisted but there’s still several things that I can’t get like the colt monitor squad which is no longer available. I don’t think that gold chests or making players wait for them to come back temporarily is the best solution, and you can best bet if the store had more quality additions like weapons I would be into it.
Not much I can buy these days as I have most of the good ones. The ones with crap weapons I always pass on since I can’t change their weapons. But if the weapons were unlocked? I would probably buy all the vast majority of them.
