I’d like to keep my Squad Formation set to Wide permanently. I always experience my AI guys having better survivability whenever it’s set to wide, compared to Normal or Close. Perhaps it could be in the Options menu? I just don’t wanna have to check and see if it’s saved or not.

Huh. Interesting.
I was under impression that close formation was usually the way to go, to ensure survivability - as a player generally knows where he/she is going (Like buildings).
But, it kind of already is in the game - You select the formation for a squad, and it stays that way for this and other battles in the future.
At least, this is how it was on my (PC) end.
Nah, it resets from time to time.
Not very effective against explosions or vehicles overall. Plus MGs can wipe your squad in sec.
Changing a squad in the loadout - yes.
But I haven’t seen it changing for existing squads that were used before…

but I’m not sure if the wide one protects from random sniping - seemed to me, like folks wanted to leave the trench/building where the player is in.
For survivability “wide” is to prefer.
But the problem is that the formation fcks up AI:s pathfinding in many maps. Did some experiments in practice. The trenches makes the AI go wild if Wide is selected.

I use different formations for different squad types but prefer Standard.

Sidenote
I used to use close formation to easier trigger AIs’ agro.
Basically if one of them is being shot at, all of them are close enough to “feel in danger” and gain agro.
Though nowdays it feels weaker than it used to be.
