I don’t see why I can’t throw my ax at an enemy or my pistol when it runs out.

Must admit the idea of throwing axes, is quite exciting 
Ofc if you throw it away, you should have to pick it up, before use again,
don’t want people having insta refill of axes
Need someone to post that gif of two enemy’s, throwing helmets at each other, that is a classic

I don’t think they will. For probably technical reasons, every soldier has to have a weapon, and melee weapons are pretty much the thing they’ve decided you can’t throw away.

besides it would not do much damage, line up a squad of 9 to kill two enemies with thrown axes
So it the same as charging at enemy which results in low chance of killing hmm
