It would be a little funny if it was controled by a AI gunner that shot at flanking infantry on its own…
It could be like the LVT-1s
this should be base in the game
Wouldn’t that be interesting? Just let the AI handle it, while the commander can also take control when needed. Typically, this position belongs to the loader, so this way the loader can also operate it. That’s a good thing.
That’s exactly how it should be. Since Enlisted already has AI-controlled defensive turrets on planes, this code could be applied to the LVT, other vehicle-mounted machine gunners, or rear turret AI, allowing them to operate autonomously in areas where the commander can’t see.
Currently, among turret designs, some have machine guns in locations other than the front. Examples include early Soviet tanks like the KV series and the IS series (a design influenced by the deep impression left by Finnish soldiers who often attacked with Molotov cocktails), as well as Japanese tanks (which, instead of coaxial machine guns, placed them on both sides of the turret, arguably blurring the priority of firepower).
I think this is a very good feature, as it can at least reduce the burden on the tank commander.
The AI could be designed to avoid firing until overheating or to fire in controlled bursts, such as one burst every two seconds or something similar.
