Give each uniform its own unique buffs

As we all know, every soldier in this game can be equipped with uniforms that either fit the map’s setting or just look nice.
Apart from helmets and plate armor, most of these outfits are purely cosmetic with no practical effects at all.

So I’m wondering if these uniforms could be given functional perks instead of just being for show.
Take the premium Panzer IV J command tank as an example: its spare track armor actually blocks enemy rounds once.
By that logic, if a machine gunner’s uniform comes with two spare ammo belts attached, this outfit buff could grant two extra reserve ammo stacks for the machine gun.

We can add similar bonuses to different attires: certain uniforms let troops carry two extra magazines for MP40 or PPS-41 submachine guns. Some outfits with built-in harnesses allow soldiers to carry 1 or 2 extra satchel grenades without equipping a separate backpack. Uniforms with large backpacks could give engineers an additional 4 to 5 construction points, Wearing uniforms covered in camouflage foliage reduces AI awareness and aggression towards the player.and so on for other cosmetic sets.

What does everyone think about this suggestion?

  • An interesting trade-off.
  • Pointless and redundant.
  • Neutral stance.
  • DF can’t pull off a mechanic like this.

if a person has the items on them they should have the items

There are plenty of potential mechanics to add: extra machine gun ammo belts, larger magazines, bigger drum magazines, increased base carry capacity for medical kits and grenades, more construction resource points for engineers, and reduced enemy detection range for camouflage. Right now only body armor provides functional perks, which feels extremely limited. Adding all these features would make the game far more enjoyable.

Customization should not affect balance.
Body armor protection should be removed.

How would that even work? Why should the pouches on a uniform make a 20 round magazine hold 25 rounds?

That’s what backpacks are for.

That’s what camouflage uniforms do already. You’re more obvious if you’re running around in pure white on a map without snow.
