General Consensus / Question for all - Matchmaking opinions

Hey everyone!

Usually I post in the suggestions and/or major updates. So to any new people hello!

I have a question about matchmaking and how players feel about how it is currently done. I am max level on Normandy Axis - have played about 1.5 years. I cannot find a pattern matching rank, skill level, or groups playing in squads. Playing about 8-10 games today, at different times of the day, on both European servers and North American servers, I found only about 3 of them were truly a fair fight. This is a common theme.

It appears that a group playing in a squad gets matched against random players. Playing with friends earlier today we stomp the enemy. And later in the day playing solo it was clear due to coordination the same was happening to me. You can tell after playing enough whether it is good player chance or coordinated. Playing solo it is fairly easy if it is all pick up groups, but that’s not the point.

Or… It is a couple max levels against new players exclusively. The odd game sure that’s how the war was… Pznr 3 vs T34. But when it comes to a few in a row cmon. Tiger vs M5A1… fun to explode but no contest if that’s the only competitor in an entire game.

So I’m wondering, what do people think about squads (regardless of size) being matched up against other squads… Or some manner of level balance? Or does this game not have a large enough player base to implement something like that? And trust, this has nothing to do with skill :). I just like a good fight!!

matches aren’t fun no more, either stomp or get stomped. Is this how it’s supposed to be?

Yes. I want this since forever. Ppl saying the game is supper easy all the time… are mostly always in stacks (squads) just like you observed.

I wish for a very, very simple mm that would pit teams of same amount of humans AND stacks. In a stack, if the enemy has none, it’s easy effortless victory. If the stack must face an opposing stack… then things get interesting.

Many similar games already have such a stack vs stack feature. Works wonderfully.

it’s always been that way

It does seem like it would be a fairly easy thing to fix. The only real dilemma is if there isn’t enough people actively trying to play on a region or in a campaign. But at least using Normandy as an example… if you broaden it to a 2 minute wait time and then it automatically includes other regions there should be enough people.

80%+ of the time with any region I get a match within 20 seconds. The odd time, I guess in the off hours it can take longer but changing the region usually gets a result in less than 30 seconds. It just seems like a simple fix. Having some mismatch can add to the game but complete mismatch seems absurd.

Most people reading this know what those real fair fights / close matches are like. That should be the goal of the game. A complete stomp is dull and gets old…

Interesting to hear you guys feel the same!

Eh I don’t think it is the intention, rather the result of a couple people playing on discord against pick-up-groups or too many max levels on one side. The best grassroots way of making the game fairer would be to allow some fashion of in-game messaging.

Like being able to /whisper xyz rather than hoping for a person in your friends list to randomly to be free when you invite them to a squad a few days after meeting.

I can’t tell you the amount of times someone and I played well, we added each other and played for a few hours, then afterwards we have no way of communicating. It’s crazy there is no way to message someone while they are in a match. It forces either coincidence (both idling at the menu), both people being on the forums, or meeting/playing with someone met through discord
