Game mods

Hi, this is a request to anyone who is setting up mods in the custom section of our game of Enlisted. Please do give us pistols. I don’t know about anyone else but, I use pistols quite a lot within the game and find it really annoying that with most custom games there are no pistols evaluable to any soldiers in my squad. I mean think about it, how many soldiers do you know that don’t go into battle without a side arm? Just a polite request here, thank you :+1:

The overwhelming majority, if we go by WW2.

Though, it is true that enlisted soldiers often went through great lengths to get pistols of their own. Bargaining, trading, stealing, and capturing them at every oppertunity. It’s a fairly well documented practice by US servicemen, some of them even brought or were sent pistols from home, apparently.

It is, despite all that effort, still not that common.

That may be true my friend, but we have side arms for everyone on the main servers of Enlisted, but unfortunately not for custom games. I am just asking why not?

Fair enough, that’s a question for the mod creators to answer.

I know one who makes historical mods, so that’s the reason for why his soldiers usually don’t carry side arms.

Also, yeah, all my guys carry pistols, just because they can… Unless I am running one of my historical purist line-ups, which I do from time to time.

Personally I never choose to run any of my squads to be historically correct, I’m sure if I did I’d be killed even more than I do already LOL The point of my post is that, if we can have pistols for everyone on the main servers, why not in custom games? I mean, if all the moder’s come back and say they are trying to be historically correct then fair enough. :+1:

OggeKing, I have just done some research and you are quite right, pistols were mainly issued to officers or non commissioned officers, tankers etc. I honestly thought it to be standard issue, and why not :open_mouth: LOL. Anyway, I’d still like them within custom games.

Quite frankly, it made little sense to equip every enlisted man with a sidearm.

To start of with takes time, money, resources, and good know-how to produce a reliable and well-fuctioning sidearm. Efforts that are actually better spent producing more essential war material.

And the benefits aren’t that great for the investment, either. People often forget that war is a group fight. The time you spend reloading is insignificant, when you have 8 pals at your sides all doing their own thing. Pistols make sense in elite and/or specialized units, like commandos, or for vehicles crews who can’t be bothered with carrying anything bulkier and heavier, but not for riflemen.

Training too is a factor - The average enlisted man is not trained enough to make full use of a pistol (if at all). He’s got his rifle (or other weapon he has been trained with), that’s what he is familiar with. To become anywhere near as effective (and even this is arguable), you have to spent a lot of time practicing. Time that would be better spent drilling something else.

And, to be frank, anything a pistol can do, another weapon does better. Range? You got rifles for that. Modest range, but full auto fire and bigger magazine capacity? That’s what SMGs are for…

That was an interesting fact, also thought that they were issued to almost everybody in WW2.

The rest i was pretty much aware of but nice info detail here !

For anyone whos interested in this overall, this video was a “good allrounder” on the topic

I like using pistols in this game when I run out of bullets, but I wish they would change the holding stance animation for handgun firing in this game. It’s anachronistic using both hands to aim and fire, as that wasn’t the way it was taught back then.

Correct. I didn’t shoot a lot of handguns in the USAF, but when training for the military and later as a correctional officer we never shot a handgun with one hand. The only way I would have shot one handed is if one hand or arm is wounded, or maybe shooting around a corner where you don’t want to expose much of yourself.

Of course, I have far more experience shooting an M16, Mini 14 and a shotgun as you spend more time training with those then a side arm.

To be honest, I never really used to use pistols, I preferred running around causing mayhem with my axe. That was great fun right up until they changed the reaction time of the bot’s. I mean, you’ve only to stand 3 feet away from Bot’s these days and they run you through in a millisecond :open_mouth:. So, and with that, I swapped my axe to the pistol, and it’s been that way ever since.
