Game mode: Sabotage

New gamemode suggestion: “Sabotage”
TL;DR: Attacking team must destroy key defensive installations to win the battle. Defending team must defend until reinforcements arrive.

Objective types: Major objectives, Minor objectives

Major objectives

Major objectives generally take form of a building. They require heavy explosives to destroy, and requires a soldier to set up explosives at 2-4 positions, similar to a buiding system. To do so, you have to take out a “demolition charge” or explosive pack, and hold a button to mount it at that position, for around 5 seconds. Interruption resets the progress. Engineers get to do this with their hammer, costing no explosive packs or demolition charges. After all packs are mounted, they will explode after a short delay, giving you enough time to evacuate the area. efending players can defuse the explosives with a repair kit, or with the engineers’ hammer.

Minor objectives

Minor objectives can be destroyed by any explosive, or by cannon/anti-tank rifle fire. These are generally pre-built engineer buildings, which are usable by the defenders. They can be repaired by repair kits or the engineers’ hammer if destroyed.

Special setups

Attackers

Each attacking soldier spawns with one “demolition charge” in their inventory. This explosive cannot be thrown, but can be used to complete the major objective. Explosive packs can be used for the major objective as well.

Defenders

Defenders all spawn with one repair kit in their inventory. These function like the repair kits found on tankers, but both these kits and the default repair kits get an added function of being usable to repair destroyed minor objectives, or to defuse explosives on the major objectives.

Objective setup and win conditions

The map will be set up in 3 stages:

Stage 1

Here, there are only a set of minor objectives, like radio stations, capable of calling in arty strikes when interacted with, weapon crates where you can pick up LMGs, ammo crates, AA/AT guns, etc. Once all minor objectives are destroyed, the attackers can proceed to stage 2 and gain 5 minutes extra time. If the attackers fail to destroy the objectives within 5 minutes, the defenders win.

Stage 2

Here, there is 1 major objectives, surrounded by a few minor objectives that can help the defenders defend the major objective. Again, once all objectives are destroyed, the attackers can proceed to stage 3. Again, failing to destroy the objectives within the given time will lead to a victory for the defenders, while the attackers get another 5 minutes of time when they succeed.

Stage 3

For the last stage, there are 2 major objectives, and more minor objectives. Destroying them all leads to a victory for the attackers.

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Gamemode is pretty unique, combining an invasion/assault style layout with a plant-the-bomb mode.
  • Battles last relatively shortly, with up to 15 minutes, but can be adjusted by having more or less objectives, and more or less time gain per completed stage.
  • Bringing repair kits is rewarded here by allowing you to repair more objectives and defuse more explosive packs. In other maps/modes, these can still be used to support allied tanks, creating a new “tank support” kinda playstyle.
  • Engineers play an important role, with them being able to place more explosive charges and defuse them more than other soldier classes. My aim is to figure out ways to also allow the other support classes to play bigger roles.

Cons

  • Explosive packs are very important for this gamemode.
  • Uncertain how well this mode will play out as there is a high requirement for teamwork.
  • Requires complex map design to set up the objectives properly.

Proposed maps for this mode

  • Town map
  • Manor map
  • Village map

That’s all for now.
I will edit this thread over time based on feedback

I like the idea
Reminds me of CS GO bomb defusal

The thing I disagree with:

Explosive packs are already a problem because they are stronger than grenades and can kill tanks unrealistically easy
Forcing players to equip them more is not very good for balance purposes

It is not intended to be an absolute requirement. That’s why every soldier gets a demolition charge. This just rewards you for not throwing your explosive packs by allowing you to use the same soldier to mount multiple explosive charges.

It makes sense to be able to mount explosive packs on the objectives, otherwise you would have to swap soldier every time after mounting a charge. And also, there is an engineer in most meta squads, and as those can mount bombs without using a charge/pack, so if you protect that guy, there is no need to use additional explosive packs.

It’s more of a community problem

One of the reasons why I only use planes now is because I encountered countless players who armed them selves full with TNT packs so they throw 7 TNT’s on my poor tank :joy:

only better squads can save this game

What squads?

The one you created

That’s not really the topic of this thread

Oh that one

I don’t think we’ll see it in this new update we are getting today. The first question is did devs even consider that idea?
And the second question is how long does it take to implement that idea?

Just like you, I think “better squads” can fix several issues but we have to understand that current squad system has been planned since 2016

Better squads is more of a dream than something we’ll see anytime soon
