Yes, I have been wanting this for a long time now.
I would prefer that you needed to man them to use them, like hop in that seat, but if we could switch them off by selecting passive that would be best, that way you have the option.
Some tanks and armored cars have rear facing MG’s like the AB 41

Imo having AI control it is simply a bad idea. Manual control would be much better.
not really , most of the time the machine gun Will end shooting at Sand/Cars/walls/ everthing that is in the way.

Not really. Imo it would be really nice to have a weapon you can use in driver view. Especially if you only have 1 crewmwmber left in your tank.

the t28 works BC ita built on the concept of anti infantry, the Hull MGS turetts of all tanks are created with the concept of protecting the tanks in the blind spots.

Still, how will you fix the targetting issues for a bot turret.
Cuase how I see it now, it’ll either be completely useless and miss everything, at which point it’ll be much better as manually controlled, or have it be a laser that sees and kille everything, at which point it’ll be unfair and make tansk even more cancer.
- AI has big dispersion but in improves the longer it shots (let’s say it would take 3-4s to focus and reliably kill)
- if enemy used AT weapon recently, the rate at whitch dispersion improves is greatly (let’s say two times) increased (but still not a laser)
- maybe additionally a range limit beyond whitch AI gunner won’t agro at all unless the enemy used AT weapon recently
Thanks to this, MGs will mostly suppress unless you pose a threat to the tank or you are in the open for too long.
Just make them function at max 6m with 3% probability to kill the enemy, they dont Need to be Jesus the Just Need to make you think 2 times before assaulting a tank directly fron the front.
Just make them like t28, jagdpanzer, panzer iv70 machine-guns…
Simply as that. If they are zeroed at the same level as coaxial MG or not I couldn’t care less, at least they work and one could get used to them.
Actually, that does sound decent.
Maybe to fit both players who can’t aim or want an automatic turret and thus want an automatic mg, and players who prefer to aim themselves and get extra directed firepower we could add in a setting to change hull mg from automatic to manual. Either as a keybind or in the menu of the tank (where in the future we could maybe customise shell loadouts and stuff).
