In lieu of the present squad system and its ceaseless balancing concerns, we could just… Allow people to make their own squads with their own compositions.
Just set class limitations and special conditions that would unlock additional abilities if a sufficient number of classes populate a squad.
Here are the proposed rules:
- Everyone starts with a 7-man squad.
- Assaulter, medic and gunner classes each have a special label called “automatics”.
- Assaulter, medic and gunner classes both use up 1 automatic slot for each instance.
- The maximum number of automatic classes in a squad is 4.
- The flamethrower class uses up 2 automatic slots each.
- Snipers, AT gunners, mortarmen and radiomen classes each have a special label called “special”
- The maximum number of special classes in a squad is 2.
- The riflemen class increases the maximum squad member count by 0.33(Rounded up every 3rd) for each rifleman populating the squad.
- Every 3rd rifleman decreases the maximum number of automatic and special classes in a squad by 1.
- The engineer class has a maximum limit of 4 in a squad.
Here are the additional benefits if certain thresholds are reached:
- Having 4 automatic squad members enables the ability to make HMGs.
- Having 2 flamethrowers in a squad enables the ability to make ampulomets.
- Having 4 engineers grant access to AA/AT gun emplacements.
- Having 2 radiomen will reduce artillery and air bombardment cooldowns.

- 1 eng, 9 rifles
- 1 eng, 4 salt, 2 sniper
- 2 eng, 4 salt, 1 at
- 2 eng, 2 flame, 3 rifles, 1 at
- 2 eng, 3 salt, 2 at
- 4 eng, 2 radios, 1 mg
