Japan’s air tree is consistently one of the worst between all factions, both lacking a meaningful attacker at all BRs and having to still contend with carrier spawns. Only a select few aircraft are where they should be at the moment, here’s a list of changes to fix that.

  1. D3A1 from BR2 to BR1

The D3A1 is a slow carrier spawn with both insufficient firepower and ordinance for BR2.

  2. A6M2 from BR2 to BR1

Though the Zero is an extremely agile aircraft, it’s completely outclassed by BR2 aircraft when it comes to ordinance.

  3. B5N2 from BR2 to BR1

The B5N2 is very similar to the Potez in terms of ordinance and firepower. Though the B5N2 flies better than the Potez, it’s also carrier spawn.

  4. D4Y1 from BR3 to BR2

The D4Y1 has similar ordinance to other BR2 aircraft, but maintains a better flight performance in exchange for pitiful firepower and being a carrier spawn.

  5. A6M3 from BR3 to BR2

The A6M3 is completely outclassed at BR3, and the slight improvement it holds over the A6M2 doesn’t warrant 2 whole BRs worth of difference.

  6. Ki-61 receiving 2 x 250kg bombs instead of 2 x 100kg bombs.

The Ki-61 has been rendered obsolete by the Ki-100 for the simple fact that the Ki-100 is better for bombing. The Ki-61 is capable of using 250kgs and its position at BR4 only makes sense if it has those bigger bombs.

  7. J2M3 from BR5 to BR3

The J2M3 being at BR5 makes no sense, in terms of flight performance, firepower, and ordinance it makes complete sense for it to be lowered to BR3.

  8. N1K2-J from BR5 to BR4 with an extra pair of rockets.

The N1K2-J is capable of carrying 2 sets of rockets, so giving it that extra pair would make it a clear upgrade to the J2M3 while sitting one BR higher.

  9. Changing the Kikka from a fighter to an attacker.

In the Kikka’s description, it states “It was intended to serve as a light bomber” and such a role should be reflected in game. Japan’s lack of a meaningful attacker at BR5 is a serious disadvantage compared to both the U.S. and USSR.

This not only gives more planes a better BR placement it also opens the way for many new planes to fill the void.

We have a severe lack of planes for Japan in every BR.

Type 5 rockets in 3 and a jet to attacker slot? No.

You don’t get to put it in attacker just because their air power sucks…

Yeah well so does the f7f… it says heavy fighter yet is attacker.

Well it can also be moved to BR III. J2M3 in BR III maybe BR IV but in BR III can be a bit OP since it has good performance and amazing guns the payload is BR III like the FW however J2M3 is better then the FW when it comes to performance with similar guns so im more to BR IV/BR III however Ki -61 for sure is worse then Ki-100 now so it can be BRIII.

Well the FW has better rockets however J2M3 performance is a bit too much for BR III however the allies have late war spitfires at BR II but still the performance of J2M3 is more of a BR IV then III but the rockets for sure are BR III since FW has better rockets and Hellcat has 4xHVARs which is better. Wfr.Gr.21 rockets are the best rockets in game sadly Germany never have enough of them wish their ground attackers had 6 not 4.

We can get the Me410 variant with 6 - 9 rockets one day for BR V.

That would be the dream, even the P38G with its 6 rockets is crazy good at Br2 imo with its ability to accurately nail tanks or infantry, straffing tanks with rockets is always satisfying. Germany feels so limited with precision CAS with maxing out at 4 rockets in Br5 while America gets 6 in Br2 and the Soviets get 8 in Br1(all be it small they still get them) and Germany only gets 2 rockets i think at Br3 first then 4 rockets Br4 and up.

Does Japan even have a plane armed with rockets in TT?

It have but its armed only with 2 rockets similar to Wfr.Gr.21 with a bit less performance against tanks and a lot less vs infantry. J2M3 N1K2-J this two aircraft rockets but its too few for BR V. N1K2-J can receive more rockets however there is not much that can be done for J2M3 then to lower its BR.

Well they are small rockets Wfr.Gr.21 are very serious rockets that should be limited only to BR III+

Only thing I’m not sure is about swapping the Kikka role.
It would fix a problem but create another (Japan would no longer have fighter jets compared to other factions)

That it itself is only a little problem true.

But what I fear is that devs would get complacent and NOT give any NEW higher attacker plane to Japan for a while… and Japan needs MORE attackers.

[…]

Also, but it’s another topic, spread planes better among the available squads. Makes no sense they’re almost all in pilot III, while pilot I & II got 3 or 4 planes combined…

Germany did have the R4M, and i agree the Wf.Gr.21 rockets should stay Br3+ unless a horrible slow plane could maybe be armed with 2 then it could be in Br2 but mainly the germans just need the R4M rockets in the lower Br’s with it being most comparable to the M8 rockets.

I know it was mainly a anti bomber rocket but so did Germany with them designing various warheads specificly for AT roles like the PB 1 which is just a 80mm mortar warhead strapped on the head for ground targets, the PB 2 was a 88mm shaped charge like the panzerschrek which was even better for AT CAS though i assume if Enlisted added the R4M they would give us the base model from WT.

Well its ok since you have huge selection of good props that can be added and Kikka will be the best ground attacker so yeah it will solve Japan perfectly.

I still want more new planes for Japan, preferably attackers. I’m just wary doing so with the Kikka would make devs rest on their laurels saying “but they already got a new attacker, ohohoh” when it isn’t new…

The problem is there is not exactly many Attacker options for BR V most of them are kind of BR IV/V nothing a solid BR V outside of Kikka.

Yes I know… but nothing prevents them from bringing some paper planes, or future ones (soviet jet exist) if need be, but ppl dislike that.

… I just want more planes for Japan. As long as there’s more I don’t mind where the Kikka is

Well there can be a lot of ground attackers for BR IV but for BR V Kikka , Ki-83 and Ki-93 are the only options really or N1K1-J Kai b. Unless we go to pure paper planes.

We don’t really have br4 attackers so… they should add those too

Why not? Not every jet was made to be a fighter

“This obviously misused and severely underpowered aircraft isn’t in a good position so NO aircraft are allowed to be buffed”

Even at BR3 I doubt anyone would use the Ki-61 just for the slightly better performance over the Ki-100 when the bombs are noticeably worse.

Plus the J2M3 would be more of a side-grade to the Ki-100, better performance for worse ordinance.

It has extremely good climbing power and a massive bomb but low 30mm… that’s not severely underpowered nor misused… all jets are fighters as they should be.

You don’t get to change the rules just because japan airpower sucks… instead you add better… even experimental attackers.

have worse payoload on BRII

N1K2-J and N1K2-Ja both can only carry 2 rocket

Well and no one plays them only the P51C is playable but it needs better bombs and its much better aircraft then the Zero the rest are trash.

I was referring to the F7F, not the Kikka.

But on the Kikka, Japan doesn’t have a lot of airrraft that would fit the role of a high tier attacker very well, mainly in payload. Moving the Kikka to an attacker role is an easy and sensible solution. I’ve yet to here you say any reason why it shouldn’t be done other than “You just can’t”.
